Also you can only play on a handful of servers (cracked or private).

If you like the game buy it. Its so much simpler.

I guess you didnt read what I said. I download cracked version of games I allready own so I allready have a good CDKEY. Mostly no CD cracks and such so I dont have to put the original DVD/CD in the computer each time I want to play.

Just to clairfy....

BitTorrent does not mean ILLEGAL GAMES. Yes you CAN get illegal software through bittorrent. But you can also get illegal software from websites, email, FTP, IRC, ect.... but we dont ban conversation about those other protocols.

You can download perfectly legitimate software using the bittorrent program. Many demos are available thru torrents as well... i wish everyone used torrents, file transfers would be much better across the board.

Consider this.... with bittorrent the higher the number of people that want it and are downloading it then the more availble it becomes for everyone.... so it saves the loads on servers, and availability grows with the demand.

I really want to see bittorrent be adopted by more companies. Get the bad taste out of peoples mouths that really have no idea the true power of torrents.

Yes stealing is bad. I will save you the trouble. And i understand that this guy was most likely talking about getting illegal games.... but lets be realistic here and not jump on the BAN-wagon for mentioning torrents. I didnt see any links or instructions to downloading illegal software.

The fact of the matter is, is the guy that first mentioned torrents mentioned it in the context of piracy. Now had he said he downloads his legitimate game demos and mods and stuff over Bit Torrent that's ok, because that's a legitimate use for bit torrent technology. In fact alot of sites distributing shareware and other free files use BT. The fact of the matter is though the rules state no discussion of illegal activities, and pirating software no matter how you do it is ILLEGAL.

He said:

"hey.... for PC games... ever heard of bit torrents downloads???? completely free, just takes time to get depending on ur connection"

he didnt say FULL games, or Retail games, or anything. I already said I agree is is most likely talking about pirated games, but we mainly think that because of the reputation torrents have. He did not specifically state they are illegal. He named no titles. He could be talking about demos. By bringing up the piracy factor you only inform otherwise uninformed users that you can get pirated games with torrents. Prehaps if no one said anything about pirated games(since the orig torrent guy did not) then piracy would not be on the minds of many.

Oh well.. i am sure someone will have something to say about my outlook.... but ignore my ranting... i am bored at work.

I BELIEVE YOU SHOULD PAY FOR SOFTWARE YOU USE AND FIND VALUABLE, especially games. They provide HOURS AND HOURS of fun.... whats $20-$60? Less than what game maker must pay there artists per hour.

My sarcastic reply was in the context of piracy as well.

It's all how you say it.

I admit that I use bittorrent...to try games out. I remember when it was possible to try out a game, and if you didn't lke it, you could return it and pick something else. Since this is no longer possible, I use bittorrent to try the game. If I like it; I buy it. If I don't; it gets deleted within 48hr. If more publishers put out demos that were actually representative of the final product I would have no need to do this either.

A word of wisdom.

"if it's too good to be true .. it prolly is"

I bought Painkiller off ebay and it turned out to be an "HK Silver"

Meaning, it was a pressed, consumer grade disc, not a burned-off cd, but, PIRATED.

HK Silver's is a phrase coined during the old Play Station 1 days where you could get PS games for 5 - 10 dollars off tons of sites or street corners if your PS was modded.

Anyways.

Avoid all Asian Ebayers ( ebay sellers from the orient ) HK, Tw, etc. Especially if they are shipping large volumes.

Best place to find PC games that are new and discounted is at GoGamer.com

Prices are great.

I have bought a number of CD-Keys off of eBay without any trouble.
Load up my mini-image with my LEGIT cd-key and all is good.

Entertainment in general is costing more and more. I mean take going on a date at the movies for instance. The average price for a movie ticket is like 10 dollars now, where like a DVD is 16-20.

Seeing as how videogames for the most part have been steady at 50 dollars, a pop. I'm happy with paying 50 and sometimes 30 (PC games tend to drop fast in price when compared to console games). I have an issue with xbox 360 games costing 60 dollars, perahps the main reason why I only have one xbox 360 game atm.

If you have anyone in your immediate family who is a software programmer, you wouldn't pirate software. But i don't really care what other people do, I'll just do my own thing over here

Man, have you guys even tried newsgroups? If not, that's just sad. By far the best way to get stuff. And, no viruses. I won't touch bit-torrents, waste of time and way too risky. And P2P networks, ha!

Downloading games is like getting a fully working demo. So I treat it like that. If I like the game, I buy it. You need to own it anyway to play online.

It was ment to mean in reply of having non pirated games only to play online, which isn't true.

You can play pirated games, online, if you have the right stuff.

However, what that stuff entails, I have no idea.

Hmm wherever really. EB Games, Best Buy, Target, pretty much wherever is cheapest and I can drive to. I hate waiting for games to come when ordering online. If there's no demo release of a game and I'm not sure I really want it I'll torrent it, but if it sucks, I delete it, and if I want it, I'll go out and buy it to play online hassle free.

I hate dling games, I much prefer to have the box and the cds and the manuals. And the smell!! Beautiful. I love new game smell.

I always feel slightly grubby if I dl a game illegaly, so I bought the one I did and now just go retail.
If it's a big titile I know I'm probably going to like, I just grab it at Best Buy, Target, etc.

If I'm not 100% sure it's not going to suck, (no demo, not continuing a series I've already played the prior titles), I'll download a torrent and try it out first. If I actually play it for more than a couple days, I'll buy it next time I'm at the store.

've got a shelf full of games that absolutely sucked balls. Either so buggy you couldn't play them, or just flat out bad design. I'm determined not to loose money on another one.

So no one thinks DLing is considered sharing?

Just so you feel better about your selves, you say "I'm only DLing to see if i like it"...that is just amazing!

Whether or not you keep it or like it, the action was taken.. you DL'ed it.. which the company consider's wrong! So what if you get caught while you are "testing to see if you like it". What is your response then?

You can get busted for having a DL'd copy of movie/game you already own. This topic will never go away.
