9300 Video Card and stuff.

Hi people,
There are any video card upgrade for the 9300 better than the 7800GTX? Also, for the ugrade the BIOS hack is still needed? Any new information about the 9300 and its performance? I know and understand now that with the dualcores the 9300 news are less and less.

Thanks,
Xat

Currently the 7800gtx is the best card you'll get working in a 9300. Still needs the xps bios to work. People have "fit" 7900 cards in, but a working bios is not available, and if/when it will be is unknown.

Heh, youre the one with the 9300, you should be telling us about the performance :P

The big advantage of the newer dual core systems is that theyre upgradable to the 64bit dualcore merom/conroe chip when its available.

Unless you do alot of things which really take advantage of multithreading having dual core isnt essential. If you do alot of video/graphic editing, riping dvds, things of that nature you'll notice a big differnce, but gaming should be negelable.

The 9300 performance is great. I was looking for a Vcard upgrade. I know the 7900 is on the market, waiting to upgrade the 9300 with it.

I have a 9300 myself, with a 1.6 P-M @ 2.13 and the 6800 Go. Considering the best you will get out of an overclocked 7900 GS is 2x the speed of my 6800 Go (I was looking at the overclocked 7900 thread), it's not worth upgrading to a new machine yet IMO. Wait until the next Dell Inspiron generation shows up, with probably a G80 or R600-based GPU, and get a real speed boost. Not to mention other parts of the machine will inevitably improve as well.

I have the 9300 also running the 6800 Go, which holds its own. I'm going to have to agree with swaaye and say hold off before getting a new machine. Plus, depending on your needs (and budget) you might not want to upgrade the vid card either. I was thinking about it, but realized it would cost quite a bit and take up my time. I have a desktop with a 7800 for my gaming needs.

I'm also stuck with a 9300 and 6800 Go. I thought about doing the same thing, but I'm waiting until a new generation of Inspirons comes out later this year. Even if I change my card, I'm still saddled with the Pentium M.
