Interesting. I wouldn't have been paying for the bigger screen, however, but the FAR better graphics and higher resolution screen.

take into consideration you are also carrying other items usually, the 17 inch giant, all the padded protection around your notebook, probably a larger bag altogether to fit all of this in. and that adds up to more than just a little extra weight.

He's not unique. I can do it and I've seen many others who also can.

Also: I put my laptop in regular bag (the kind it comes shipped in) to avoid being rained on in case of a wet day. I put that in my regular bag, and nine months now, I've not had a single scratch on the computer's surface. There really is NO real need for having a laptop sleeve if you are already carrying the thing in a bag.

I'm not in college anymore, but I think the 17 inch would be too big. I take my e1705 with me everywhere, I dont find it too big. But for school, I would stick with the 15 inch or smaller.

Personally I dont think 17" is too big for college use...but its all up to your personale preference and need. In my case the laptop I am about to buy is going to be primarily a desktop replacement/media center. Ill use it to take to the library and be able to travel with it. I dont need ulta portablility.

If you need it to be ultra portable, go with something smaller. If not and you want a large screen go with the 17"

you just need to figure out your personal needs for it

I would get a nice, gigantic, humongus laptop with premo-everything to have, and then a small crappy clunker from eBay for 150 bucks to tote around to classes. Network them, and pop necessary data & notes from the beater on the nicer one to compose your work.
You get the best of both worlds; a portable notebook that you don't need to worry about the abuse it will take from taking it from place to place, and a nice system that you can also use for entertainment.
