Can the e1505 game? Look at this config and tell me please?

Thread Starter
I hear good and bad things about the e1505. I personaly love dell. I like the 15'' laptop but I'm told the x1400 256 meg card is not good for 3d games. I want to play games like world of warcraft and HL2 and stuff on the road. Here is what I configured with a nice coupon from fatwallet.com. Will this run 3d games well?

I hear overclocking the heck out of it helps, but the x1400 is not the best card for gaming. It's like a slightly updated x300, good for some but bad for intense gaming. WoW should run fine but HL2 is a good question (depends on settings). I would suggest getting an e1705 so you can upgrade to a better card for gaming (Nvidia 7800 or higher).

For $1,300 you can a get better 15.4" gaming notebooks. The X1400 graphics card is about half as powerful as the X1600. The X1400 will not run games nearly as well as the X1600.

The X1400 is not an updated X300, it is more like an updated X600.

Sound Options Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy® ADVANCED HD Audio is just software. If you look in the dell forums, people will tell you about it. They just added software to boost the sound. Which I think was only EAX or something.

It depends on how much eye candy you want turned on. The x1400 should run HL2 and WoW flawlessly. Most of the time I use mine for NFS:MW.

You should be just fine playing WoW (I've never played HL2 so I don't know how demanding it is). I have maxxed out e1505 that I just got that plays Everquest II (which is more demanding than WoW) at high settings fine, but it can't max everything.

Now you did say you want to play on the road and the problem I've found with that is that games slow WAY down on battery power. Even when I set it to Always On and have a fully charged battery the frame rates become horrible/unplayable. Maybe I'm missing something, but that's just what I've seen.

If you really want to game consider a 15.4" with an X1600 or 7600 inside, there are several choices that can be very close to your budget and offer you a better quality machine, better built, and more powerful. Like the Compal HEL 80 and the Asus S96J.

Look at my sig, I spent two more dollars than you, and take a look at the specs I got. Which by all means you have a T2500 and an 80 7,200rpm, but I have better quality and a more powerful GPU. I wouldnt consider a laptop with a T2500 or higher unless it had a X1600 or 7600 or above.

Just my 2 cents
