ThinkPads on eBay?

Hey all, I am new to this forum and i have a q. I noticed there are unheard of deals from a few different sellers on eBay. The most attractive deals i see are from sellers ThinkPadWorld, and Premier-pc-auctions. They have quite a bit of stock listed and both have eBay stores. Their feedback is 99% and a lot of the comments say that these L-Claim laptops are undifferentited from brand new. Anyone in the forum ever have an experience with either of these two sellers? I am about to buy this item : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=6892596612

Thanks

I can't imagine why you would buy that T43p off eBay when you could buy direct from Lenovo and get a better deal.

You're right on that model. I am looking at other models though. thinkpadworld has a better selection than premierpcauctions and both of them have unbelievable pricing. looks like thinkpadworld is a more established company as they have triple the amount of feedback. but both have great deals. I think I will go this route for my future purchases. I spoke to a guy at thinkpadworld today they said they are blowing out over a million dollars of inventory this month to get rid of it by the end of the quarter so their prices should be rockbottom. they have t60p brand new for 2599.00 with the $200.00 rebate. Did anyone here ever buy from them?

Wait... Why don't you try this? Try getting from BillMorrow at thinkpads forum? He used to be a PC VAR and he offers great prices and his remarks in e-bay is all compliments and many users in his site can vouch for his honesty. His site: http://forum.thinkpads.com

E-mail him at bill@thinkpads.com

the guy on ebay thinkpadworld has over 6000 feedback. isnt that enough for it to be legit? I never used eBay to purchase anything over 100 bux or so so I want to make sure, but the feedback i see for them looks great and I spoke to them today, they sound pretty established. I think I am goin to go this route. I looked at Thinkpads.com and compared prices, looks like thinkpadworld has a larger selection, they sent me a spreadsheet of their in stock list today, and they said they are havin a blowout, with almost 7K in feedback all on selling laptops for 4 years it looks like they just might be a good route to go. Any other advice?

That's your decision. But be careful. Since you said they are well established, then go for it then. Wait for a little while, i get someone from thinkpad forum to tell you about e-bay.

tfflivemb2, please come out...

I beg your pardon? Why is your rank all red? You got blacklisted for talking craps or fighting again? Huh??? Stop attacking me in someone's open thread.

Anyway, as for your question about buying from Thinkpadworld, their feedback seems legit enough for me. There are several threads in the Thinkpad forum about this same vendor, and they seem to pop up every 2-3 months. The general consensus is that they are a reputable dealer. The biggest concern that has been raised was whether or not the Thinkpad would come with the warranty from Lenovo/IBM or if it was a MACK warranty. If it is a MACK warranty, I would avoid it. Ask the seller directly on the specific system that you are looking at.

I'd second that, and add --make sure they use "PayPal"-- If the machine has the IBM/Lenovo Warranty, it should follow the machine.... If the seller uses PayPal, or accepts major credit cards.... you have some recourse if they don't ship....

Assuming it's "new in the unopened box", your chances of getting a problem machine are probably no different than getting one direct from the factory.

Lastly.... (and this is probably obvious) if the seller has a lot of "good ebayer" recommendations.... click on some to see what the item was.... make sure they are for selling thinkpads. (or high priced items)... not a thousand pairs of tube socks at $1.00 a pop... just to build a "good seller" rep

I've bought and A22m and and R40 from individuals on Ebay with good results. I wasn't looking for high end machines, just solid laptops for relatives. So far everything has worked well. I bought them from individuals who had actually owned them and were upgrading to a newer machine, so they had "personal experience" with their machines. Or, they could have been lying through their teeth, but at any rate I've been happy buying off Ebay.

I bought a t60p off of ebay. Brand new and quite literally half the price Lenovo was offering it for. As long as you're careful and patient ebay can be great.

I am posting this from a Thinkpad I bought from one of the cheapo ebayers.

The seller was honest but confused. They sent me my notebook very quick but got all the specs wrong, apparently somebody there was responsible for putting in the right amount of RAM and the right optical drive. After complaining they sent me memory and the right drive. The communications, although ultimative successful (and quick) leave me to state they are confused.

So, do it only if you have good nerves and can sort it out in a decent manner later. If you are the hot-blooded type who issues a negative feedback right away or hires a lawyer don't do it.

This experience, BTW, matches almost all problematic ebay deals I had. Very rarely somebody is deliberately trying to screw you. Quite often you find sellers too stupid to fullfil the deal. If you are able to nurse them through the process you get what you want in first place. Angry emails and accusations do nothing good for you.
