HDTV connection

I was wondering... do you have any problems in regard to the resolution displaying on a HDTV using the HDMI connection? The reason why im asking is sony's XL2 desktop system that has a HDMI connection will display the OS at 720P or 480p, not sure but i think its 720p... but when it came down to watching movies on the XL2, it was displaying 480p... does the AR have the same problem? i am really interested in buying a AR, but i want to get this confirmed.

Are you talking about DVD or blu-ray? I don't have any problem using my AR (with blu-ray) with my Sharp 45 LCD. To view in 1080i/p you need to have a resolution of 1920x1080. Most of the HDTVs out there are at 720p (DVD is 480p). There only a few of true 1080p TVs out there. Anyways, if you have a TV that has 1920x1080 capability, then you should be able to use AR (with blu-ray drive) to view 1080i/p quality.

Hi,

I just bought the AR21S which is the top of the range model and in regards to the backlight leakage i'm getting quite a lot (see picture below).

I was just wondering if anyone else was getting leakage as bad as this. As you can imagine it is really annoying when watching dvds.

To be honest this is supposed to be a state of the art machine and I spent a lot of money on it, and for there to be light leakage this bad I'm not very impressed. Your input would be much appreciated.

Its about the same here maybe a little less. but the brighness is set very very high. Use the nvidia control to reduce some of the settings and you would come to love the display. I can't see my light leakage. Had an Dell m1710 before this ar11s and there was the light leakage much worse and had the screen replaced 3 times without any result. But on the other side I've had the A117s before and there was NO light leakage at all.

Just my 2 cents.

Reduced the brightness and tweaked the other settings, and its a lot better. Went to a few computer shops today and all the other AR models have the light leakage, so at least its not just mine. The screen is the best I've ever seen in a laptop - colour reproduction is superb.

Yeah, pretty much all AR that I have seen has this problem, so exchanging probably won't help much. But even with this leakage problem, it's still the best notebook LCD that I have seen.

Turn off the VAIO logo at the bottom of the screen using the notebook utilities. The leakage drops to a small fraction of what you see before.

No. Doesn't need to tho. You'll get plenty of notice with just the gloss and thin profile. Everyone goes nuts over the sleek case.
