I have installed Vista Beta 2 on my Gateway 7405gx, and everything worked out of the box. Granted I haven't needed to install any other hardware on my laptop, so I don't know how everything else is.

many of the drivers are automaticaly installed by microsoft with the first update.

*You may want to install "laptop video 2 go" video driver v88.61 with modded inf. to get the new Nvidia control panel*

or:

use the one microsoft loads for you and wait for tony to release the mobileforce drivers for vista beta 2 comming out around the corner.

and if you use aim you may only be able to run v. 5.0 or the latest Gaim beta3
both work with vista i prefer Gaim.

if you have any other questions about it, pm me

well, i am actually doing it for my desktop (sig).

Is there a way I can create 2 partitions? If i dont do that, is it easy to backtrack to xp like it was before?

I have an external hdd btw if that makes a difference. I dont want to pay for any programs for any of this

well, I decided do go through it and screw xp.

What I am asking is will the drivers automatically be downloaded? I dont have to use my cds to load them?

Also, will cs:s run on it?

Will I be able to use my tv tuner and my xfi?

I wouldn't overwrite my XP with the Beta because it's a non-upgradeable time-limited beta.

However, on a different partition, I would consider trying it. It should find all the necessary drivers already, there shouldn't be a problem with that.

whats the time limit? until the official version is released?
I think it expires Nov. '07 or something like that. The Microsoft site says the exact date.

oh, ill probably get the official vista before that anyway. I still have my xp cd.

So should I get 32 or 64? Im 54% done with 64 with 500kbs

64bits seems to perform better, dual-boot is not an issue

Hi jcll2002!

Please download the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor, it will tell you if WinVista will install the drivers for you or if you'll need to provide them, it will also give you some useful information, but remember, the Advisor is a beta too.

i put the beta 2 on my laptop, no big problems, installed sound and video without driver CD support.

i did have to broadcast my network SSID before it would connect (intel 2200), that was a bit odd, but no biggie.

i'm also using cyberDVD, which pops a message up saying it's incompatible, but then it still works. But haven't tried burning a dvd on it yet, i don't think the burner is recognized as such.

I installed 32bit on my lappy (see sig), and it was running very nice, unfortunately CPU usage was 80% of the time over 40% while doing nothing, so my lappy was running much more hot than with WinXP, that's why I installed XP again.

It's likely due to the debugger. That or there's something wrong with your config.
