HP says they will ship backup CD's free!

Once you purchase and receive your notebook, if you call in they will send u all the backup cd's free of cost (since you are in warranty.) This is what a tech agent told me tonight in chat. If this is the case, why are so many people on here complaining about not having a OS disk, quickplay disk, etc to reinstall?

I hope he is telling me the truth on this. Guess I'll found out soon enough lol.

I got mine. The first time they only sent the driver cd so I went back to the online chat and they sent me the OS cd.

Excellent, I'm glad to hear that this is actually true. What I'm stumped on is if they are going to send them free after you buy, why not just include them to begin with?

I know I had complained about it to a higher end of customer service and the lady I spoke with about it got really nasty with me and said "why does it matter?" Obviously it does if people are complaining but they dont see it that way.

Anyways thanks for the confirmation.

RE: If this is the case, why are so many people on here complaining about not having a OS disk, quickplay disk, etc to reinstall? Depending on "who" you talk to... the offical postion for most all computer companies these days is something they term the "media reduction act".... meaning that they save money (and make money later.. and make money from people during the warranty period as well by "charging" them for the disc(s). (There have been people here that were charged during warranty for the QuickPlay disc for example...) Addtionally on the QuickPlay, there was NO listing for 2.0 for a period of time. On the OS discs, they cost money to make, and their probally a license fee paid for each copy so by not shipping them with the unit they save a few bucks. Depends of what "rep" you talk to.. some reps hand out the cd's upon the request like candy (Like they should).... Others will refuse, try to get you to pay for them, get nasty with you. Offical postiton being to use the "recovery disc's /recovery partition.

If you gave them an e-mail address you should get confirmation e-mail with the order number... rep should give you a order number that can be accessed via the web for the status.

If you don't get the confirmation e-mail, the order has most likely fallen thru the cracks.

Same reason rebates are sucessful. The more lazy people who just never call in, the less CDs HP has to ship out and the less expense for them.

Is it a real Windows CD or is it an HP disc with bloatware?
Actually, I think my method of not bothering to make the backup cd's and calling hp to bail me out was lazier.

It's a real windows cd. The bloatware is on the driver cd.

Yeah but that's ONLY for the operating system CD, the drivers CD, quickplay software etc is NOT included in that 10 dollar price tag when ordering a system. I've done it twice now and only got the OS CD.

Yep $10 and you get the OS CD....

Drivers? Drivers can be downloaded- (to get the latest versions.)
QuickPlay? That can be sourced thru HP

Should they inculde these discs with the system, Or upon request sending out ALL the disc's pertaining to that system with just (1) phone call?????. ... instead of (sometimes) having to call them up once to get the OS disc, another time to get QP, etc.....
YES, YES, YES
