2 cores. Many Yonah laptops will be able to use a Merom processor, some need a BIOS update and some just work fine. Your MBP might be able to upgrade to Merom but then again maybe not.

The Intel PowerBooks can use the Merom processors when they come out, but upgrading is impractical as the current processors are soldered on.

Powerbooks use mac processors how the heck are they gonna fit a Merom in there? Maybe Macbook Pros can fit them because they actually use intel processors already. And I don't see why they would solder the processor on, that would make repairs very difficult but I guess maybe its worth it for them because it makes it hard to upgrade?

I was a bit concerned about the 64bit nature of the merom (and Leopard) but couldn't fight the urge and went head and got a Yonah.

i read somewhere that they were socketed now?!?!?!

I refuse to use that other name. Chevy...the iMacs and Mini's are socketed, and presumably the PowerMacs will be as well, but the laptops are all soldered.

Might I ask why? It really does sort of help others understand. Sort of like why you don't tell someone that you got a ferrari for $20,000 and later add that it is a toyota camry you just refuse to call it that
