The other 17"'s on the market are around the same size. 17 too big? Depends what you're going to be using it for. If I was going to college I would go for one of the smaller units just to make it easier to carry and maybe get a larger flat panel to hook up to it when needed. Another thing in peoples choices is how "big" and "strong" they are.... Little people favoring little machines more... Big people not being affected as much by the size and weight since they are "Bigger".

This just reminded of a friend of mine. He's 5'11", 275 lbs (pure muscle), won an amateur judo contest some years ago -- obviously not someone you want to mess with. He just loves his 12" PowerBook, uses it as his primary (and only) computer.

I am, on the other hand, 5'7", 145lbs and just upgraded from 15.4" screen to 17" screen.

One has to wonder...

My point is, more than size, it has to do with a person's perception of themselves and their environment.

But, mostly, it has to do with what they need the computer for.
