Dell Unofficially fessing up to 7800 RevI issue?

Its funny with all this talk about the 7900GS upgrade after complaining to DELL regarding the 7800go overheating must have stirred something up. My card was unusually high these days where im getting mid game crashes (not fun explaining to raid leader that during MoltenCore/BlackWingLair nights) So I was putting the card in power saver mode when I contacted Dell (had a rude indian rep which is a first for me) switched me to the floor supervisor which was even worst. He suggested that I pay out my own pocket to replace to a different videocard since ive already swapped my card once for the same issue. I wasnt amused and thought Id let it go but a familiar texan voice called back the next day (FROM INDIA!) saying that my card needed to be replaced and the technician on hand (the rude one) was trying to convey this messege that I couldnt understand and that the floor supervisor was out of line. They are swapping my 7800go for a 7900GS since the 7800go Rev2 is no longer in production. For those of you unaware I have swapped my 7800 Rev1 card for a Rev2 Card and then back to a rev1 card. Im not suggesting that DELL is officially swapping out 7800gos for 7900gs cards but I didnt ask for the card and I am legitimately having issues with the card and they have upgraded me to it. I got a confirmation call an hour later from the same texan that the card should arrive in 2-3 business days. Will let you guys know how it goes.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the point of this post is that he specifically mentions that 7800go Rev2 cards are no longer in production and refused to give me another Rev1 card. This bodes well for those of you who have this type of issue with the card.

Good to hear you eventually got a 7900 on the way. Dell can be difficult to deal with sometimes.

christ there saying the refurb card is out of stock and since they wont give me a 7800 and cant send me a brand new on they want me to build the system from ground up with a specialist (with the 7900gs in it) hmm my system is over 2 months old mayb they know im a mod here haha this isnt normal practice for dell to cater to people this well.

I got my 7800 system last feb, I just recieved my replacement system with 7900gs yesterday. They just had me swap out the HDD and send the entire system back to them.

I also had done a few 7800 swaps prior to this.

My replacement system with 7900 gs is unbelievable. THe screen is amazing, I booted both systems up and watched for light leakage and at the WINDOWS LOADING screen, the new 7900GS system had really good saturation and brightness of the white WINDOWS letters making the older 7800 based system lettering look almost YELLOW. I was very happy with my support and replacement.

stock 7900 gs Benchmark(06) was 3506, currently at mid 4700's and still going strong, i will be pushing harder in the coming days.. striving for 5K but my memory artifacts at 1150 but is solid at 1100, have to do more bios tweaking..
I know you will love the new system..

Congrats.

Dell is finally replacing my 7800go for the 3rd time with a 7900 gs.

Took so much fighting because they didnt believe me, so I emailed them links of other users, on Dell forums, suffering from the same problem. As soon as they read that, instantly sent me out a 7900gs.

I can't wait till I get a laptop that doesnt have the capability to burn human flesh.

Sorry, I hope I'm not hijacking the thread, but will Dell exchange my 7800 GTX? I have the same overheating problems (I think) because I'm getting 93-95c temps while playing games.

93-95c is not overheating for a 7800 gtx. I doesnt downclock until over 115c I believe.

I was under the impression the GTX didn't have a problem...

Also, your overclock probably isn't helping

what free tool can I use to check the temperature of my 7800Go Rev1 please?

My laptop gets warm, but I don't have it on my lap so I don't know if it's too hot - I also have it resting on four marker pens so there is always air-flow under it.

I ordered it in Feb, and don't know if I should try for an upgraded card...as most of my issues (BSOD) probably relate to Dells Bluetooth, memory, USB issues...

thanks for any advice (and where do I get that temp/fan checking tool?)

Right click on desktop, click properties, click "Settings" tab, click "Advanced", select the "GeForce Go 7800" tab, click "Temperature Settings" on the left.

Mine's idling at 79 degrees at the mo, and im doing jack shit. Oh! Look, just hit 80 (And I swear Im not joking).

I've learnt something from my first conversation with Dell Support. A rep swore at me. I took that up, I rudely took it up with every rep I got, doing everything I could, being horrible, and threatening to take it up with managers etc.

Then, I was put through to a person called "Zeenath". She's apparently the highest up at Customer Support. She sent me an email in writing saying that I will send my laptop in, Dell technicians will test it, and if they find a problem in the graphics card, they'll upgrade it. I was happy with that, 'cept, then I got a call from one of their reps in Australia about picking the laptop up. He was AMAZINGLY rude. HE clealry said to me "Im gonna keep the phone now" when I kept asking him his name so I could complain against him.

One week later, I get a call from Dell Technical Support "Hey, your laptop's graphics card upgrade has been processed and approved, we are going to be upgrading your card to the 7900." I was like "SWEET! When do I send it in?" and he replies "Oh no sir, we'll send an on-site technician." - EVEN BETTER!

So yes, joy.

Is that bad? My card is idling at around the same temperatures, while doing nothing. I've already had the card and motherboard replaced before. Should I complain again?

Come to think of it, I have been getting tons of BSODs lately, ever since I upgraded to A01, hummmm......I know that they don't nothing to do with one another.
