Ok, I have a new 7800 GTX nVidia card that I purchased new from blue32701,
I read the Dell web site instructions for the install, I have bios 5 installed, I have the driver on my hard drive. A'm I ready to tear the computer down for the install?
Thanks LeeU

After the experience I just had (http://www.notebookforums.com/thread159195.html) I would HIGHLY recommend, at the very least, checking the thermal pad under the heatsink.

But if you have removed the heatsink, then you might as well replace the pad with AS5 anyway.

at a frys or a pc-club (If they have them where you live), otherwise you could get it online from here:

Ok, I got my as5 today, 3.5 grams for $8.00, not cheap. I have not opened the static pack yet, my new card does not have a heat sink, do I use the one from my 6800? I have two revision No's: Rev A01 and one dated 4/19/06 Rev No A22, part D P/N HF594. Is this really a 7800 GTX and is this card one of the 7800's with heating problems?
Thanks

The GTX Go does not have heat issues, only the Go does.

The GTX go does have heating issues. Not as bad as the GO but make sure you apply the AS5 correctly. Personally I had the best luck with a thin layer of AS5. Enjoy the new GTX best upgrade you do for the Gen2 system.

What about the heat sink, my card does not have one?
Thanks LeeU

No heat sink. Ouch that could be a problem unless you have your 6800U still lying around. I am not 100% sure but I belive they are the same. Swap it out. Just apply some as5 to the gpu and install the 6800U heatsink. remove the heatsink and see where the AS5 has touched teh heat sink. If it is on the copper core your good to go.Clean and reapply AS5. Keep us posted on your progress.

Ok, I thank I'm an idiot. The two heat pipes with the alumnum plate, is this the heat sink? When I picked the card up in the package I heard a metalic ratel sond, is this normal?
Thanks for not blasting me for being such a nod

yes, the 2 heat pipes with the aluminum plate is the heat sink. I don't have any clue what the metallic rattle sound is.

Hey, Leeu I am pretty sure there is a a thread with pics on how to install a vid card in the gen2 it could help with some of the questions, I know I would rather see pictures of what I am supposed to be looking at when it comes to something like this.

The sound is probably from the screws on the vid card, I would think you would realize it though.
