Am I nuts to go from a E1705 to dv8000t? - Page 2

jav1856,

You make some good points as always.

On the DVI+HDCP=HDMI... as you know it's an all digital feed, better than component. There's less conversions of the signal.. digital to digital to digital to the final conversion done within the light engine of the display device (Big screen tv in my case) that is in most cases analog based. Going with any other kind of connection increases the amount of conversion of the signal.... at least that is what eveyone that is into HDTV and Home Theater is being told..

S-VIDEO.. that the current units are shipping with looks like el-crap-ola the bigger you go up in screen size.
S-Video being below the level of something that had component outputs and it being being below DVI so DVI if it's available as an input would be the prefered method to give the best picture.

You may want to consider this Toshiba that just came out http://www.notebookforums.com/thread159518.html

Big screen tv? What kind of tv? CRT projection, DLP projection, LCD, or one of those fancy $10k 60+” plasmas?

Just figured out the DVI is always HD capable and HDMI needs HDCP. So anything with DVI is capable of outputting HD.

To answer my own thread's title question:

NO

Got it today, love the screen. So far love everything about it. Definately going to post a review in another thread, still checking everything out and will likely do a XP reinstall later tonight or tomorrow.

Quick observations.

Yes, there is light leakage but at a very acceptable amount. Bottom quarter of an inch has some white in it, none of this half screen crap. Oh, FWIW, when you first boot up this one and you are looking for LL, its best not to wear a white tee-shirt as it reflects very, very well

Running 3Dmark05 right now (still on the opening battle). Not a whole lot of visible difference between this and the 7900, though I'm sure the 7900 was smoother in other places. With the brighter and more clear screen it just looks better, if not totally fluid moving. FPS was still around 19, and this is before I up'd the machine to 2G of ram (it presently has 512 mb).

Keyboard is very nice, I really enjoy what little typing I've done on it. Not sure what everyone elses experience has been but I haven't noticed any problems yet.

Only real problem has been with my network, trying to get it onto my wireless. I always have that problem, so its not the machine (no more netgear routers!).

Sound is damn good for a lappy.

Doubt there is a way to turn down all those blue LEDs, but they look cool (for now--- will it wear off?).

Still not sure how I feel about having ALL the connectors on either side, will probably appreciate it when its on my lap, not on my desk.

Damn that screen is good looking, even when its doing the CPU rendering of the two scenes. Choppy, but good looking (frame-by-frame-by-frame).

3532 3Dmarks right out of the packaging, again with 512 MB of ram. Will try it again once I throw in the 2G.

That's all for now... more to come!

Man this screen looks fricken awesome!!!!!!

delphigreg,

When you have the unit on your lap.. be careful not to block the air intake...

Note to others... do make the backup DVDs (all THREE of them), and give yourself multiple hours to do so, especially if you think its cool to lightscribe the labels for them....
