I have the e1405 now (2ghz, 2 gig, 100 @ 7200, 6 and 9 cell) and the m1210 is on its way (1.66ghz, 1 gig, 80 @ 5400, go 7400, 6 cell, A/V pckg).
I will only keep one and I need to make my mind.
The screen of the e1045 was the only issue initially with it but it honestly doesn't bother me anymore. The e1405 is a very good machine, great performance and awesome battery life. Works great with my music and PVR and I like having the stereo jack on the side. I use to have a 700m so the only thing is that I wished it were smaller.
People all around seem to be very happy with the m1210 and like you said obviously smaller; that's why I'm trying it. The downsides for me are downgrading the components (which may not make a big difference from all the benchmarks I've seen); and the battery life. I would have traded the AV package and the Nvidia card for better components but Costo is not that flexible....
Thank you for all the feedback. I'm still undecided but next week with both in front of me should make it easier.
