Fujitsu N58 notebook - anyone know anything?

An area electronics store is adverstising a Fujitsu notebook with the following specs:

Features:
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 2.80 GHz
15" MVA SXGA+ TFT display
512 MB DDR266 SDRAM memory
40 GB hard drive
Modular DVD/CD-RW combo drive
Built-in floppy disk drive
Built-in multinational 56K V.90 modem and 10/100 Base-Tx Ethernet
Four USB 2.0, IEEE 1394, S-video
Windows® XP Home
One-year International Limited Warranty

Requirements

Dimensions and Weight
12.83"(w) x 10.94"(d) x 1.66/1.96"(h); approximately 8.05 lbs
Operating System
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home
Pre-installed Software
Microsoft Works®, Quicken® 2003 New User Edition
Fujitsu Service Assistant, Adobe® Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Internet Explorer®
Netscape® 6, MSN Explorer, McAfee.com® Scan for Virus7 Free Trial
PowerQuest® Drive Image™ Special Edition, Fujitsu BatteryAid/Hot Key Utility
LifeBook Application Panel.

They don't list what model the notebook is in the ad so I called and asked. Their answer was that it is a N58.

After doing a very detailed internet search, I have not been able to find any other information regarding this model. The store rep. that I spoke with did not know if it was a "special" model created for their store or not. She did say that it is definitely an N series model with the great screen.

I'm looking for more detailed information on this notebook before I decide to make my purchase. At this point I can't even tell if their price is a good deal or not ($1600).

This will be my first notebook purchase and I would like to make sure that I'm getting the right one for my needs (web designer and dog field trial secretary).

Any and all help is most appreciated.

Not a good deal in my opinion. For 1600 you could get something that is better equiped and with Dell and their weird promotions and coupons you could get a 8600 for cheap. I dont know if you are going to want to be on the go with the notebook, as in... away from a power outlet... but if you are.... that model will probably only give you about 2 hours of battery life at best.

That looks like an N3010. My Fry's hs been carrying this for awhile now. It's the predecessor to the N5010 and has a 9000 Mobility in it.

Thanks Enderet, but I don't think I will ever buy another Dell system after the lemon of a desktop I bought about 5 years ago and had to deal with their inept customer service.

Thanks for the clarification kevhuynh. I was tending to think it was looking a lot like the N3010 also. It is Fry's that is advertising it. They have a similar notebook for $1800 that they've also had in the ads a lot lately and the only difference I can see in the ads is that the more expensive model has a DVD burner vs. a CD burner.

So, is the N3010 a good machine? And could you give a quick explanation on what a 9000 Mobility is? Thanks!

I don't need to go the expensive 3+Ghz that the N5010 has (my Sony VAIO desktop is a P4, 1.8Ghz, 512 RAM and it's doing just fine for what I need). I don't need a large harddrive, not worried about the battery life, do want at least 512 RAM, a P4 at least 2Ghz, best possible display (for photo editing) and more mobility than my desktop. Oh yeah, I don't have a hugh budget either, so would like to stay around $1500 for a price.

So I'm open for suggestions. Thanks every and any one :-)

After some more research and calling Fujitsu, I have conformation that the Fry's advertised n58 is in fact an n3000 model. Fujitsu said that Fry's probably ordered a bunch with a specific config and gave it their own model #. Seem's to be a descent price too. Most places offering similar config. were more $. The few reviews that I've been able to find have been very favorable, except for a couple from some serious gamers.

So unless someone can convince me to seriously consider another system looks like I'll be buying one of these N58 notebooks. The screen is a major deciding factor for me. Have read some posts about the Sony new screens that are supposed to be similar, but there were other negative aspects to Sony notebooks that were mentioned in several reviews. The only other mention I've heard of another supposedly great screen is from Toshiba, but have not been able to find much info.
