REINSTALLING the PRE-INSTALLED OS

Thread Starter
Since I'm a lazy bastard and don't want to even type it in, does anyone know if there has already been a HOW-TO guide for re-formatting and re-installing Windows XP Pro on a 8887 (or 8886, I imagine would be fine).

Especially in light of the forthcoming HT-bios enabling thing PC Torque mentions.

I'd like to do this with my WinXP Pro disc (not the recovery CD - which is where I assume the OS is?). Of course, I'll use my license from the bottom of the Sager (defacing personal property: why hasn't anyone sued microsoft for their demand that this be done?)

Links, pointers, or just a friendly, "shut the hell up, you lazy bum" are appreciated.

format

you could go HERE and download a windows ME boot disk. make the boot disk from the file, put it in your floppy drive, boot up using it, type format c: format the drive. then once the drive is wiped clean, load up your XP disk into the cdrom, boot up using that, and instal xp.

or you could boot from the CD to begin with, and see if it gives you the option to instal a new copy of windows, and format the drive before beginning the install.

hope that helps.

*gasp* oh no! not the banannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnarrrrrrrrrrrrgh stop it, they are beating me gah, im on fiRE!! , OW, not there!

I tried to address format and install of XP in my review of the 8887... I'm sure PCTorque will also have a nice set of directions all made up for it as well. Keep in mind, though, that the license on the bottom of your sager may not work with your XP disk... there are different releases of XP, lol, and keys only work with their respective release. :-) If you do want to use the recovery cd, you can do it the way ayefly explained. XP is on the recovery cd.
