I1505/6400 - Bios A05

Thread Starter
Dell released a new bios for the I1505/6400, called A05.

Enhancements
------------
1. Support NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 Graphic Card.
2. Updated Intel processor support, Processor ID: 06EC.

Nvidia Geforce GO 7300 support? And which processor has that ID? Could it be a Core 2 Duo? Hope so.

Searched, but couldn't find the post. Sorry if this is a repost.

I will test the new BIOS today on an E1505 with core 2 duo, let you know if it works.

oh, how i'd love to see a geforce go 7600 in this laptop.. hell, i'd even settle for an X1600.

I updated the bios a couple days ago, so far, not a single problem. I don't have a core2 or anything to try though.

The Yonah based processors are undergoing a stepping change from C-0 to D-0. This stepping change requires a BIOS update. There are no logic changes.

What does that mean exactly?

Does this apply to new Yonah processors or is it a change that will affect current ones?

Thanks.

I can't install die BIOS-Update. When I doubleclick the MM061A05.EXE, I get a Windows-notify-sound and nothing happens...

Is there another way to install it manually?

/EDIT: Tried win2000 compatibility... works like it should!

Thanks.

In order to incorporate speed enhancements for Yonah Based Processors, Intel is converting the Intel® Core™ Duo Processors T2600, T2500, T2400 from C-0 Stepping to D-0 Stepping.

Are you sure "Processor ID: 06EC" refers to this new stepping?
Maybe the support for D-0 has been implemented before and know we get Merom support?

The current CPUID is 0x06E8. 0x6EC would represent a stepping change only.

Since no one seems to get moving I'll give it try

Merom 7400 is arriving on friday ...

I live in Hong Kong. I found A06 on Dell HK web site.

Oh it's on the german website as well

"Add support for newer version of the Intel processor"

Now we could ask again who is processor 06EC. Maybe A05=Merom-Support, A06=D0-Support?
Ok would be kind of crazy ... but I really want this thing to run in my lappy on friday

Guys... for the last time... 0x06EX represents Yonah. The last value represents the stepping! Merom would be 0x06FX.

Dell is not going to put out a public BIOS update for support of a new processor that hasn't even been released.

So why does merom run on Sony Vaio SZ, Lifebook 7110, HP NC6400, Dell XPS 1710 and XPS 1210?
Apart from vcore control it runs on E1405, too.

Great so there are a few BIOSes that can handle Merom... give it a shot. But stop trying to second guess the meanings of the CPUID values. The new processor ID added for the A05 BIOS update is not for Merom... that is fact.
