E1505 & Hitachi Travelstar 7200RPM SATA - Heat issue

Anybody experienced any heat issues with their Hitachi hard drive? At idle, it runs somewhere between 53-55 Celsius, but usually stays somewhere between 55-57 Celsius. Operating temperature for the drive, according to Hitachi is up to 55 Celsius MAX.

The drive heats up to 59 Celsius at times. Temperatures are reported by Notebook Hardware Control (awesome free app.)

I have a Targus CoolPad traveler to lift the laptop off the carpet. I know that there are fan-based coolers available, but still: drive shouldn't be THAT hot.

Anybody else have that issue? If yes, how did you remedy that heat problem?

I've got the same problem with the seagate 100gb 7200rpm hd on my e1505. stays around 55c. this laptop only has active cooling on left side farthest away from the hd. I saw another post on e1505 temps and his hd was 55 also. but others are saying that this model is not hot. mine hot as heck at 55c. will burn your legs and furniture at that temp. let me know if you find anythin out.

The only thing I can report at this point is that yes, it indeed does get pretty hot. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody sues Hitachi and/or Dell for providing a "dangerous product" that could potentially burn a victim.

In any case, my drive actually reached 62 Celsius the other day. I'm glad I'm not running the laptop on my lap... for now. My work-around solution is to use a laptop cooler between you and the system.

I don't think there'll be a solution to cool down the drive without any 3rd party product. Setting the drive from Performance to Acoustic/Quiet mode doesn't help, and spinning it down to a slower speed would defeat the purpose of buying a fast drive to begin with

Accoustic helped me

actually, the accoustic mode did help mine. I went into the bios and it the Dell factory default is to "bypass" this setting. So now my hd is around 47-50 vs. 51-56. mine is the seagate 7200 vs. the hitachi. now if i could just the the memory and gpu a little cooler (120-125F while surfing) I could actually use the Laptop on my lap. It is umbelievable to me that consumers are willing to will accept someone over 50+c/120+F sitting in their laps baking their private parts and burning their legs. If they put 1 more small fan in these things it would probably be fine. better than buying some large plastic board with fans to carry around and sit under the laptop.
