HP Exercises Intellectual Property Rights in Ink

Hey everyone... this is not about Notebooks per-se but we all need to stand up and notice /protest this since most of us are sick of the price gouging on printer cartridges:

Note this one post:

Has anyone ever thought about the price of ink in terms of volume. I looked and saw that an HP 99 photo ink cartridge sells for as much as $33.50 and only contains 13 mL of ink. So, doing a quick conversion, it would take roughly 292 cartridges to give you a gallon of ink. So, in terms of dollars per gallon, that's just about $9800/gallon!!!!

WOW... $9800 per gallon of ink.... NO wonder HP and the other printer mfg's are wanting to lock you into buying only from them... Kill the inkjet re-fill market.

Actually, there is much more than just ink. They have to design the cartridge and remember that there is a microchip too, and it needs to be build very carefully.

The ones that are stealing are those in the re-fill market, they don't build or design any cartridges or microchips for them, they just take an empty Original HP cartridge and re-fill it.

Yes... the KEYWORD being REFILL... taking an empty cartridge that would either being going to the land fill, Or be bought up at scrap prices by HP itself... So they could refill it... and then sell it back to you again.

$9800 per gallon of ink is still sort of high.

You mention the word STEALING... well at $9800 per gallon.....

I would like to know, in wich side are you? With or against HP?

I have a HP Printer and I use Original HP Cartridges, although I DO sell the empty ones (they give me around 50 US cents for each cartridge), I keep buying originals.

I'm against them trying to corner the market. What they really want to do is to put the ink-jet supply refill companies out of business.

They don't want anyone but them being allowed to re-fill a cartridge... and they don't want you to be able to buy ink to re-fill your own.

Erikco,
There are better ways to recycle the empty cartridges. Bring it to a local school for their fund raising or exchange for a $3 coupon at Staples.

Remember I live in Mexico.

That $3 coupon sounds great! Here they only pay me 5 pesos ($0.50 US) for each cartridge

A man that does not re-fill... that can afford to throw money away by not re-filling should not worry about such things...

People should give back all their empty's to HP for free as HP only is only charging $9,800 for a gallons worth of ink.

They hardly make any money, you should buy only HP refilled or new cartridges...

Stay away from buying ink to re-fill yourself.... $9,800 is cheap..... 13ml of ink for $30 a "good" deal

Make my HP stock go up...
