Cleaning up an E1705

Ok, I just got my E1705 the other day, and it's sick! However, there are ~60 processes running from start up, and I was just wondering who I could get rid of a few of them. I actually uninstalled about 10 programs that came with Dell, and I don't think the performance has been affected, but I hate seeing so many things running at once.

Start--> Run type in msconfig and go to the startup tab.

Format is your best bet as Dell's bloatware is completely removed instead of "most" of it.

use DOS!

a gui is just a crutch for the weaK (or a way to be able to run more than 12 command lines....depends on who you ask)

format c:

I'm only running 29 processes at startup.

28 here. HAH!

J/K . But, seriously, reformatting is your friends. Esp. as soon as you get the computer, so that you're not worried about losing data.

If not that, the Add or Remove Programs panel is your friends. Using that, along with some judicious use of the Delete key in Explorer can fix you up pretty good too.

ok, I went through msconfig and services.msc and disabled what I didn't like. Now I have 29 processes running INCLUDING: taskmgr.exe, aim.exe, 3 McAfee programs, and Opera.exe

This means 23 processes w/o my programs or protection.

Thanks everyone

AnDien.... to further improve performance DITCH MCAFEE and grab Nod32 or AVG instead. Ditch aim in favor of Miranda. no complaints about opera b/c its less of a hog than firefox
