Wel the time has come to get a notebook cooler

Well I have been looking at notebook coolers. I found one made by Evercool called Zodiac. Anyone used this? Or know of a really good one.

i collected/tried many coolers, imo (sadly) they r not doing what i expect from them besides adding more noise to the process.
http://www.laptopdesk.net/ - has a brilliant idea by just making sure that air flow is being moving rapidly underneath the laptop, thus dissipating heat more efficiently - and QUIET
they r blimey expensive :-( though - i do own 2 of them regardless

cheers ...

I suggest the spire pacific breeze. It lifts the notebook up and blows air straight under it. It works wonders!!

This one is the best that I know of (my friend has one) but you would probably need to put it on a piece of would or plastic tray to use on your lap.

This one is a bit better for lap use I guess (I've never used it though)

Just search newegg for "notebook cooler" and you'll find a bunch.

This is what I want to get. vantec lapcool3. Unlike some others the bottom has no vents.

i am currently using a lapcool2 and it works pretty well. whatever you do make sure that the fans on the cooler spin the same way as the fans on the laptop. if the laptop sucks from the bottom then make sure that the cooler does not contradict the required flow of air, and if it blows, make sure it helps it blow. if you have opposing air flow in the end all you're doing is creating pockets of stationary air that just keeps warming up and up and up...doesn't help your cause

Well I do nto have to worry abou tthat my laptop has no intake vents which I find odd. I been thinking aobut cutting a whole in the CPU cover so the fan can suck air in. when I remove the cover the laptop stays decently cool.

I thought you wanted to use it on your lap. This will not work on your lap. Its desinged to rest on a flat surface(from what I see on the pics). Unless you were to put in on a tray of some kind. I'm actualy using a whiteboard when I put my laptop on my bed .

If you don't mind my asking, why do you want/need a notebook cooler? Are you not working on a flat surface (desk)? Or is there some other reason?

I recently bought a Gateway MX6421. There is heat. The fan comes on and goes off blowing hot air at the left side rear. But this is not out of the ordinary.

Do you have a special heat problem?

Curious minds want to know...

I also have the lapcool2, but mine is powered by the USB plug (iirc, abf has the black one. i have the blue). Very good cooler. Cheap and efficient.

4 posts later and nobody saw that. You should not do that, even if your notebook becomes warm easily (for that you buy a cooler). Cutting holes will expose your hardware to dust and all kind os particles. Considering you move around and use your notebook on different surfaces, any bad luck and bingo! short-circuit. A modest memorial to my 2000th post.

I just received my Spire Pacific Breeze from newegg. It didn't come with a USB cable or anything, just a box and the fan unit. The manufacturer's site says it includes a USB A to A cable, and there's a pic of one on the newegg product page.

Should I bug newegg about it?

WHy not?? Most have vents mine just don't. I would put a mess over the hole to crap don't get in it.

Because if Asus didn't put an intake on the bottom, the laptop was clearly designed to operate just fine without one.

I have the Notepal, and it works quite well. The aluminum body is quite effective at dissipating heat, and it puts the laptop at a nice angle. However, like other posters have said, it definitely isn't something I'd use on my lap.
