ps2 MS intellimouse - Page 2

I have no access to a USB mouse; I need to be able to use my PS/2 Wheelmouse. I know it works; it did on this machine briefly. To recap Scruffidog's and my problem, we are two faithful Sager 888x owners who, upon plugging a device into the PS/2 port, causes the system to freexe during startup. Device is enabled in BIOS and Windows does not detect it if we try to plug it in after boot. Turning PS/2 and Quickboot OFF in BIOS was a temporary fix, but not guaranteed. We also prefer not to have to use USB mice; we prefer to have FULLY FUNCTIONAL MACHINES. Finally, Scruffidog is as we speak tracking down the possibility of a harware issue of our parts being made in China and incompatible with US mice. My techie friend agrees and believes an updated BIOS with new hardware instructions can be a fix. Any suggestions?
Thank you all for your help so far.

Hey, I just jacked an older PS/2 Intellimouse from home and it works perfectly! Strange...
