Ive been having a few problems wit my I8600 the motherboard was recently replaced from heat issues and now my screen and video card was recently replaced. I called in yesterday and they told me that they would replace my whole system but they arent sure wat system they will be replacing it with because of the 8600 being discontinued. Has any1 else had theres replaced and what did you recieve. The only worry i have is that i wont be able to use my modular floppy, battery, and dvd+/-rw drive in the new system because I was looking online and they dont have any systems that have that anymore. What do yall think thanks

I'm thinking at least an e1505 since you have a video card. But that's just a flat out guess.

I'm dreading the day when I have to replace my 8600. I do like having the modular bays in the 8600. The Compaq listed in my sig has modular bays also. It has dual optical drives. The units to come after were faster, but had less features. Speed is not everything.

I understand wat you sayin, yea this 1 is faster and i love this glossy 17 inch screen but i can barely fit it in my back and they gave me the 6 cell battery so im gettin like 1.5 hrs with the wireless on im missing my 6+ hrs on my 8600 with the modular attery. Im haten this intel wireless card keep droppin connection. Im lookin into gettin an atheros card like i bought for my 8600 it worked great. so i look at it this way i gained performance and lost mobility.

To stop an Intel wireless card from dropping connection:

Open The Systems properties panel from control panel
Open device manager
Expand Network Adapters
double click on the Intel Wireless adapter
Click the advanced tab
find a setting "Roaming Agressiveness."
Turn this setting to its lowest.

That should stop your Wireless card from dropping connection so often.

This is the specs of my old system and my system replacement, and it took them a little less then a week to get it to me. Because i call them on a friday, they told me call on monday to tell me which system they would give me. Called on monday they didnt know what system they replaced it with but gave me a tracking # and recieved on that thursday afternoon. Also like 2 weeks ago i called in because they sent me new system with a 6-cell battery and i told them about the battery life and how i had bought the modular battery for my i8600 and now couldnt do nothing with it so they exchanged my 6-cell for a 9-cell now.

The only thing left to do to my system is add bluetooth, but im waiting for dell spare parts to have the 355 module + edr since the new systems are shipping that instead of the 350 they said they should have some in a few wk. and later on upgrade to maybe a core 2 duo. but this system right now is fast enough for the basic stuff i do so that upgrade aint goin to happen for a long time.

Thanks, I called Saturday evening and got the OK for my exchange, It looks like our specs are very close, so hopefully I will be getting a E1705....and I will watch which battery they give me ...might have to call and get a exchange if its the 6 cell.....By the way how does it compare performance wise to your old 8600 ? Also how much of a improvement was the X1400 video over your Fx5650?....Don't mean to be a anoyance its just your the first person who has actually had a 8600 nearly identical to mine replaced recently....

well im not a gamer on my system, i just do a little photo editing and started doin some video editing also use some autocad. but mostly basic use dvd watchin, word processing, and web browsing. as far as performance wat ive notice is i can run alot more programs wit the e1705 then i could wit the i8600 even when i had 1.5gb of ram in the i8600. also programs like autocad and pinnacle loadup alot quicker on the e1705. Im used to the size because if feels like the same weight as my i8600 with both batteries. but even with the 9-cell i get around 3-3:30 hrs of battery life. And with the truelife screen so much brighter and clearer makes the i8600 screen look dark and dull.

Did they give you a case with it ?...My 8600 had the case included in my purchase price which I know will not fit the E1705.....

no they didnt give me a case but i bought a backpack for my i8600 that i can just fight the e1705 in so that was pretty good.

Great thanks, I will keep you posted on what they give me for my replacement.....

Let me tell you after a nightmare of delays from dell they finally shipped the replacement today, and its a E1505, with a 2400 Yonah processor, should send it back for a better replacement..seems a little weak to me....
