m1210 built-in webcam and A/V question

is the built-in webcam standard on all models? im looking at the absolute low-end model (the $1300 one) and see the A/V Communication Package, which lists:
A/V Communications Pack (Intg. web cam, Mobile Broadband Antenna, ear buds)

also, is the antenna for the mobile internet via phone service? or is it for wireless a/b/g internet?

It's for the internet phone stuff, I believe. Not for the wireless.

That AV package IS the webcam, if you don't get it you won't have the cam...

I'd also assume the antenna is for Cellular broadband, not 802.11 stuffs.

Wonder what the 1210 looks like without the AV package.

Anyone know the exact model number for the webcam? I know its from Logitech.

Also while we're on the topic of webcams.

Does anyone know if there's any kind of fix for the extreme slow down when low light mode is turned on?

Or is it just my system that has this problem?

Ear buds are the little headphones that you put in your ears. heh. And according to the pictures there is no antenna sticking out of the m1210.

That's just the way low light mode works - it lets each frame expose longer, allowing more light to come in to the lens for each frame, thus being brighter. Same principle as using a longer shutter speed on a camera.

I have had my M1210 since last August, I love it. It has surpassed any and all of my expectations. I have the a/v package and Verizon is my carrier. I can pretty much get online anywhere from where I live (50 miles from Seattle) to anywhere in my travels which include California and Florida. Connectivity for the most part is akin to DSL speeds! The ear buds are like having really good stereo headphones without being too intrusive.

IMO the M1210 without the a/v package is incomplete.

The M1210 comes with Wi-Fi antennae regardless of the presence of the webcam. However, if you want cellular broadband from Sprint, Verizon, or Cingular you'll have to buy the AV package which somehow integrates the antennae for the broadband card. The antennae are all embedded inside the screen so no rubber-duck antenna sticking outside your system.

Mobile Broadband is nice, but it's not avaialble in alot of areas. In fact Sprint's speeds have gotten WORSE in my area in the past couple years.

Since you have one with the webcam, let me ask you this: Can you pivot it so that it captures the person sitting across from you? How is the audio quality? I want to video/audio record interviews (with the knowledge and consent of the subject, of course), and I'm wondering if this laptop would work for that. Also, is the network interface gigabit, or 10/100? Thanks for any insights.

Anyone have a response?

The webcam can be rotated to face away from the user. I reckon the internal mic is pretty good, but picks up alot of background noise. The NIC I beleive is 10/100 only though, might be Gigabit, I can't remember.
