M90/M1710 and 9400/e1705 chassis differences

I'm guessing that there aren't any major differences, but I'd like to check and see if anyone knows for sure. If I have an e1705, which I might pretty soon, could I take all of the plastic parts (palm rest, power button/led section, LCD bezel, and LCD backing) off of an M1710 (or an M170/XPS2 for that matter) and put them onto the e1705 chassis?

I'm pretty sure I could. That said, Dell spare parts said they can't look up any parts unless you have a service tag, so could someone with an m90 give me their service tag number please?

I doubt anyone will give you their service tag. Even if someone did, you are mostlikey end up paying more w/ buying parts.

Well, I actually have 2 service tags now. I'll call spare parts on monday, it might end up being so expensive it isn't worth it, but who knows? Sometimes parts departments are very reasonable, sometimes they're extortionistic.

i've seen the M90/M1710 as well as the 9400/e1705.

aside from the obvious cosmetic differences (ie color, lid, led lights, etc), the main difference is that the M90 and M1710 have an opening at the base which allows for a port replicator, and the 9400/e1705 does not.

That's kind of what I figured. I looked at pics of all the sides, and the right side layout of the IEEE and the card reader is a bit different, but nothing major as well. But, if I were to just make an e1705 look like an M90, I wouldn't change the very bottom piece at all. Only thing I really don't know from pictures is whether all the screw holes will line up.
