yes i like the machine, but is not happy that they changed theyre mind sending screen to me.

so now i have to send machine to ireland from norway, and was told it can take longer than 6 working days as they promise. im a little pissed.

the english guy told me dhl would be here friday or monday, but i havent seen him.

gonna call dell consumer service tomorrow to see if they cab guarantee 6 days, and what i get if they cant keep it.

and ill call tech to get a screen to me, instead of sending machine back.

but probably too late for that

just scared sending such an expensive machine all that way.

by the way.. dell tech called me now at 20.30 pm about my screen.
its true, the phone and mail tech people have no clue what the others are doing. And yes they all say i need a new screen, i asked the guy on the phone and i would get a NEW screen, not refurbished because my system is new.

and he talked about i had to do something special, and also have seen that dell has put a collect and return on my system
said some norwegian guy would call me tomorrow, hope he does before the dhl guy calls that the other techs made.

what a mess.. i have no clue what happens

Thats gotta be rough dealing with Dell when you live outside of America, Im sure its a lot more for you to send back your dell than it is if you live in the US. Its probly also a lot harder to get a Dell technician to come replace the screen. I have dealt with the Dell reps in India and most of them know some english but not enough to fully convey what your trying to get across to them. Hopefully everything works out for you bache.

Hi m8, i've got the SAME EXACT problem as u.
I've bought 2 I8600 via small biz, for my biz, one screen is WSGA (the one that does 1680x...) and the other one (mine) with WUXGA (1920x1200).

Well as U, have the same issue, well even I see a Vertical band, in the right half of the screen, it's barely noticable, but it's there.

I was pissed off, coz we had 2 wait almost a month to get these 2 systems, & we needed them badly.

I revised the 2 I8600, (thank god & all the ppl here, I had enough info to test everything), overall the units are fairly good, hd ok video ok (no corruption), even mine o'ced @ 400/277 Mhz, & temp dint go beyond 85-90 degC.
All the tests ok, but, BUT the screen, @ first I thought I was too picky with the screen, (as a matter of fact, I wasn't able to find any dead pixel, with the screen all white....), then I reread U'r thread, & VOILA!, exactly the same.

So I called tech, & at first the guy just told me it was normal, in his laptop was the same thing, then I told him that it was a renting with our bizznez bank, & that I'm stopping the payment till they fix this, so he made me wait like 5mins, & then told me that,YES, it is a defective part, that needs to be "adjusted", so I asked him, if by my tag code, he could know the brand of the LCD, & BINGO we got the winner : TOSHIBA.

I asked him 2 send me a SAMSUNG new LCD, @ my bizz, & he told me that the type of care pack that we have doesn't allow us to do that, & that the type of screen will be the same brand, coz if I have a TOSHIBA I will get a TOSHIBA not a SAMSUNG, so I told him that I'd talk to the sales rep.

I don't CARE what type of care pack we have, taking into account that the unit was built with DEFECTIVE parts (mainly the screen), so we wont pay a dime till this is fixed ASAP, and on site.

If they send a tech guy, fine, if they send the lcd, fine.

Anyway this was just to let other ppl know my story.

On the other hand, & would like to thank everyone in here for putting so much info, and scheding some light in this type of problems.

Also thx to the mods, especially DELL Machina, all of U ROCK!

PS: I live in Barcelona / Catalonia / Spain / Europe.
PS2: Sorry for my long posting (I always post long ones, can't help it )
PS3: I'll keep U posted about how the thing "evolves".

Updated, here are some pics for U to check out:
Pic1 -> Bottom light
Pic2 -> Lower left corner, jedi sabre light, these are the most visible
Pic3 -> Lower part brighter, even at normal room light

my machine is on its way to england now, they promise 6 working days from pick up .

sp that means i should have it thursday next week. yeah right.
ill call and complain if i dont get a tracking number by then.

all im scared of is if it get scratches on its way, or if the tech doesnt change screens. as i was promised over phone and mail, a NEW screen.

well see. i can always cancel the buy because of defective product.

i also thought i was too picky, but my former centrino didnt have this, so better try and fix it right away instead of becoming more and more irritated.

by the way the mail tech said i needed a new screen the same day i mailed them, no hassle there.

Hi Bache!
Hope everything goes as smooth as possible!
The least we can expect after all this hassle is that they change the screen & TEST it, & no more "problemas".

We fix this ASAP, that is for sure, the luck here is that we'll pay the 2 lappys in about a month, when the invoice will get here, (week more week less), but if this doesn't go as we want, we'll block the payment...

As for the tech guy, I just called directly, & talked to a person, as I said, at first he just tried to convince me that it was a normal thing, that his lappy also did the same, after a while he just happened to change his mind (dinero drives the world!)

Anyway, keep us posted!

ive heard samsung is best. but also heard they change the screen for just 1 new one of same make.

anyways, i think ill get a call from a tech when they get my machine. i hope so.

i got 1 call from england same day dhl picked it up,1 hour after, he wanted to make sure i sent it...

hmm good service so far, and strange to suddenly speake english when someone calls on ure mobilephone . 2 time someone overthere have called me.

That seems cool service so far, I hope U get it ASAP, for me it's useless till monday morning, when I can talk to the Sales person, anyway first thing in the morning when he opens his mail, he'll have my complaint

The point of Samsung vs Toshiba is to know if it is worth it to fight for a Samsung or just get a working Toshiba...

Hope I'm able to get some help.

Anyway, for both of us it's wait time...

PS: I've traveled close to Finland but never been there (yet!)
