Help! All my desktop icons move everytime I close the lid!! Geforce 7900GS - Page 4

Everything on this computer is updated. Infact, this is a fresh install of windows with all the latest drivers from dell.com. The problem remains and there sure isn't anything left to update. It is not a windows problem. It is a driver problem. I know I fixed the same thing before on another computer but cant seem to do it again.

nevermind ill try on to do my best to fix it and tell here if further solutions be found

All I know is when I got my m1710 on June 2nd, I had the problem. I called them up and spent 45 minutes with the techs and nothing. They said they dispatched a ticket to there driver designers and that they'd look into it. Towards the end of June I noticed A01 on the Dell driver site and downloaded and installed it. After it was installed and rebooted, the problem went away so I don't know what to tell you further >_>.

i9300 / Go6800 Same Issue

I believe it's the latest version of the Nvidia drivers - this does not happen if I go back to the previous dell driver version (the one before they put in the new nvidia control panel). I hate screwey drivers :-) Im sure they will patch it.

I have the latest Dell driver installed.

I have the same problem on my m90. I found a solution that seems to work.

Disclaimer: I'm not really sure what the registry value modified below does, nor can I guarantee that changing it will not have any side effects

The solution is to modify LidBehavior registry value in nvidia card registry key from 0x11 to 0x10:
  1. Open registry editor (Run->regedit)
  2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video registry key
  3. There are several subkeys composed of random hexadecimal numbers. Each of those subkeys have its own subkeys 0000 and 0001. Find the key corresponding to the nvidia card. This is the key whose 0000 and 0001 subkeys contain a lot of values (such as individual games settings etc)
  4. In 0000 subkey, find LidBehavior value. On my system, its default value is 11 (hexadecimal). Change it to 10 (hexadecimal)
  5. Reboot

Edit: Most likely this will break dual display support in some way.

Look on the forums on www.laptopvideo2go.com. As I recall I think you posted on there also. They seemed to have narrowed it down to a driver issue. It happens randomly to me on the 91.33 drivers but I never had this issue with the 84.21 drivers. You're using dell drivers. Try XG drivers or other laptopvideo2go.com. Thats my 2 cents.

This worked for my M90. Hopefully it won't create any adverse effects. Otherwise I'll have to change it back, which would suck. Cause I was having this problem too, and it is really annoying.

It works! Thanks danton

damn why does everybody has nvidia cards. cant find lid behavior on intel cards.
We went through this already in this thread:
http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...ht=LidBehavior

Thing is value 11 is default on the stock Dell drivers and the power goes off just fine.

Problem is the drivers have to support the LidBehavior key. If the drivers already have LidBehavior then your good to go if not your out of luck.

Regardless I will test the 10 value tonight.

Ok, same as me.

Intel Chipset version is v.7.2.2.1006, A09

The only way I know this is because it was the latest update from Dell.

thewird,

Maybe the difference is actually in the hardware. You are running a GTX, I am running a GS?

But I had the same problem when I got my system though and I even called Dell and couldn't fix it.

It's driver related
Everyone says that but its not. I've installed ned drivers and its always been fixed after it randomly fixed itself. I even used the driver cleaner and its still fine.
