MediaDirect 2.0 Overview - Page 7

Sorry, xfaega... .isz is a compressed .iso file (didn't realize I burned it in .isz until after upload)

Use a program called ultra iso (the newest version) and you can use the trial version to open the .isz then resave it as an .iso

I'd like to thank everyone who contributed in this thread to solve the Dell media experience problem.

I had truly screwed up my harddrive after an unsuccessful linux installation. the fact that i still had my original dell utility and recovery partition was a good thing but the dell system recoery partition wasn't working as the dell boot code had been overwritten by a reinstallation of the OS.
but working through the steps on this website and on goodell's website i was able to fix both the dell media experience and my dsr partition
so once again thanks everyone as i was pulling my hairout trying to fix this and after carefully going over the posts in this thread i was able to fix it.

ps my system
inspiron 6400 core2duo T7200 @ 2ghz 1gb ram nvidia 7300go 256mb ram turbocache 15.4" widescreen. Windows xp MCE

Why dont you read the previous posts (like the one at the top of this page?) where I reply what an isz file is?
(Not to be rude but I get tired of answering the same questions over & over because people dont take the time to read the thread)

For everyone that is saying they have no hidden MD partitions BUT MD works. It is being hidden by the HD, so not even the BIOS .. much less the OS, knows about it.

I posted an overview of the HPA (which MD uses on some Dells) here:

I cant get hold of the DMX - one of the download links is down and the other is corrupt when you try to open the .iso. PLEASE can someone re-upload this urgently? I've been trying to get my hands on it and Dell keep sending me out the wrong CD!!!

Does any know if MediaDirect will work on a Precision M90? It has a similar button to the left of the main power button as on the e1705 that I bought for my daughter, but it is, of course, not labeled MediaDirect as it is on hers. If I press it while in Windows, it opens QuickSet.

Just want to know if it is worth the effort to try to get MediaDirect installed while doing a reformat. And, if it is possible, which route do I follow? I would assume the long install since it did not come with it in the first place.

Sorry, don't know. Does this button do anything if pressed with computer power off? If not, then doubt this will work for you...

You're correct in that if the M90 does not have MediaDirect in an HPA, then you'd need to try the MediaDirect Reinstall procedure...

No, pressing this button when the laptop is off does not do anything nor does pressing any of the media buttons on the front of the laptop. Oh well, was hoping I could get it to work somehow...

Hello,
I just finished reading through all of the thread, but I missed the answer to one question. Maybe someone could give me a (virtual) hand. I gave up on the idea of erasing MediaDirect as to gain extra space on the harddisk. 1.5 GB is not worth the hustle. But, how can I get Mediadirect to access "self-made"partitions on the HD. Mine is reluctant to access other partitions than c: and this is where I have only my system i.e. Windows. All movies and music is on D: or E:

Does anyone know, how to access these via Mediadirect?
Thanks in advance.
