Could you generate a track0 file [see above]??? I'll send you a PM with my email address....

From reading the 'notes' on the A06 BIOS it doesn't appear that MediaDirect should be impacted, but you never know....

The track0 file will help at least see what the boot code looks like....

Thank you very much for your help Mark. I'm going to try the dual boot type method. I'll post the results! Thanks again.

Your best bet is to leave the Dell Utility [~40MB] partition alone when reinstalling Windows and then after Windows is 'finished' run the MediaDirect 2.0 Repair utility [See the Step-by-Step 'Short Repair']. That's about all you need to do. hth Mark

After you get Windows squared away, you'd do the steps listed in the 'Short Repair'.

MarkMcK,

I followed your instructions on post #11 since I did delete ALL partitions on the harddrive and have the newer version of MediaDirect repair off the website.

When I press the MediaDirect button, I get the MD splash screen then this message:

"Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check booth path and disk hardware. Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information"

I believe the harddrive has the HPA portion with MediaDirect on it, since it seems Dell does this now with MediaDirect systems. I never ran MD before reformating the computer.

I only have one partition and it shows as 91.75GB. What should I do?

My MediaDirect randomly stopped working. It worked perfectly fine for a few days without installing any more programs. When I press the button, MediaDirect boots up, but does not go into the main screen. Instead, it goes into the Blue MediaDirect Screen with the MediaDirect Logo in the top right hand corner. I cannot get past this screen no matter what i do. When I want to get out of the screen, I press the mediaDirect button again and it shutsdown properly. What went wrong?!?!?! I have tried to repair it again, but still no luck. I don't have any other ideas, and neither does dell!!! any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

hm... that is interesting. I have since fixed my mediadirect though. I did have to reinstall windows but it was all worth it. You would also need the MEDIADIRECT RE-INSTALLATION CD. It isn't downloadable from any dell website becuase it is a software license. I had to get it sent to my through dell customer care.

But if you have those two things I can walk you through exactly how to make everything work.

The reason why my mediadirect didn't work in the first place is becuase the partition got corrupted some how. Atleast that is the story I am sticking to.

So anyway, if you need any help, feel free to pm me. The directions that come with the mediadirect re-installation cd are completely wrong... figures right?

I have made downloadable (re-upped from NBR since the site I got it from is gone) the Dell Media Direct 2.0 REINSTALL CD ISO IMAGE.
You can find it here (compressed in .zip format).

LMK if it does not work.

If you know of a faster site that allows ~500MB files, please let me know and I will reup to that site.
The original site I downloaded from also was that slow, but is now down.

Ok, I found the link I originally got it from here
http://up-file.com/download/5b0f0522...ect20.zip.html

But the file was deleted, so I will keep looking for a faster upload/download location.

LMK if you have any suggestions.
