Hey CAAB,

I've only spent about 10 hours in Maya 7 so far as the production I'm on is still using Maya 6, but it's been great in both versions. No crashes yet, no stuttering. It's definitely more stable than the OSX and Linux versions of Maya that I use at work. What specifically have you been doing? I've mostly been modeling and laying out UVs- nothing too system intensive. About the hard drive, I upgraded to the Hitachi Travelstar, but I've since put the stock 5400rpm Fujitsu drive back in... more info on that in this thread. Even with the 5400, the computer feels snappy. Right now, the only installed upgrade is a couple of 1GB 667MHz SODIMMs.

I removed most of the stock software that HP bundled with the computer too- Norton, the recovery partition, etc.

How's the screen on your nw8440? Backlight leaks? I've got some light leakage on the bottom, and the lower two corners are darker. It's not really a problem, but HP is currently sending me a box to send my computer back to them with. I'm really just concerned that the display I'll get returned to me is going to be worse than what I've got (and I'm really just being nitpicky I think- as every HP I've seen at Costco and CompUSA seems to be of about the same quality- of course this computer was twice as expensive as those).
