Guess I well have to hit a store in the area to find somthing or get the backpack.

So we're down to the case now, eh?
If that's going to make or break the deal you could always purchase everything thru HP... Hp's got that 21-day return window...

Lets see... Costco... Cheaper, 180 day return window.. . but I have to find a case elsewhere.... Or I can order everything thru HP... with only a 21-day window....

Let me think about

Not realy a deal breaker, I well go the cosco root ("root god whats the diffrence" userfriendaly.org) and am happy I found that setup on this forms. But I just found it anoying. also don't help that I just found out that hp.com well ONLY accept a credcard issues in the Us. Being I just moved in from canada and don't have a perment resedance yet, hard to get a Us credit card lol. but Costco dose not seam to have the same issue.

I was acutlay just e mailing HP asking if they well provide bios updates to upgrade to the core 2 duo processor or if the dv8000t well be comming with this chip soon ish. I hate being under a gun to get a new pc but arg not having a pc in a month when I get to a client site well SUCK. Bad enough where I am at I only get to sue the pc's at work. Can't quite play city of heroes from here

But ya the dv8000t seams like the best bang for the buck in the desk top replacment area. tho u just know someone well post up a new laptop over on soem other site

I'm not sure if I should get the dv9000t (probably core duo 2 right?) or the dv8000t. My original planning was to wait for merom or the replacement model to come out, then purchase the dv8000t since it'll be cheaper. I'm not much of a gamer, I'm mostly looking for a laptop to edit videos, photoshop, other adobe applications, and just microsoft word, quicken etc. And the new dv2000t doesn't really wow me that much, I prefer the old look with latches... What should I do?!

Right now, its better to stick with the 8000 as your going to college and dont need a flashy notebook that could be stolen. If you apply for the APP student discount program (great for college students) the same configured notebok is about 1300.00 without the dual HD's and only a single HD and it comes with free shipping and also 1GB free RAM upgrade.

I agree. Things are going to get stolen in college and I'd be really miserable if someone stole my newest hp laptop heh. The 8000t looks boxy enough to turn off those jackers so I hope I'll be safer haha... Btw does anyone know if dv8000t is upgradable to merom? I did some searches, but I heard that you can't detach it. =/

Actually you can, referring to this post on NBR; http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=61577

The GPU is NOT upgradeble
The CPU plugs into a SOCKET.

Download a copy of the Maintance and Service Guide, shows it in I think section 5.22

The big $64,000 question is if HP is planning on releasing a BIOS update so the new cpu can be used .. Dell has already released bios updates for the 1705 /1710

Worries me that HP might "freeze" the bios at the current level since the dv9000's are coming out.

BTW: has anyone heard if HP will be offering a DVI out port on the dv9000????

To get an idea about what the dv6000 and dv9000 are going to be like check this out. Seems there are some trade offs in moving up. http://arajani.blogspot.com/2006/07/...ok-review.html

Looks exactly like the dv2000 except the dv9000 comes with numpad. I have to say it does look slick w/ that piano finish and all, but according to the review, seems like there's a huge trade off getting this new model.

"the LCD only swings back a maximum of approximately 125 degrees!"
"The notebook also boasts latch-free closure. "
"The glide point touchpad is made of a metallic/plastic material similar (if not identical) to the chassis. The problem is that it doesn't glide all that well. If its hot out or your hands are clammy, it doesn't glide. And even as I type in warm, humid New York weather, my palms are sticking to the chassis of the computer. The left and right click buttons on the trackpad are also cheap looking with a plastic-y click to them that is hollow and insubstantial."
"The notebook features an integrated 1.3 megapixel camera for web/video conferencing. Again, this isn't a blockbuster feature, but I'm not really opposed to the feature if it's included for free. At the same time, I am dissatisfied at how the placement of the camera and dual integrated microphones makes the bezel of the LCD monitor thicker on top."

I know those criticisms are subjective, but to some degree I agree with that guy. I don't know why HP blundered so much on this new replacement model. I also heard the 12 cell battery mislevels the laptop. Oh well. Looks like I'll be getting the dv8000t. I hope dv9000 will drive the price down for other models.

Gah I still can't choose between the brightview (which is around 100 extra) and the ultraview (50 extra for higher pixel display). I won't be getting this laptop until mid-late august but for some reason, I can't keep my mind off of it! haha. I blame you guys for getting me so involved. jk. but I'm really learning a lot thanks to all of you guys.

Getting a dv8000t towards the end of the production run is a good thing in regards to most issues should be pretty well known and fixes in progress if not already out.

dv9000 would be a whole new piece of unproven equipment. 3-4 months+ after they start shipping would be the time to buy.

Pretty much the same with the poster above; stick with the 8000t, and you wont be dissapointed. If your wanting to save some money; go with lowest RAM and buy from newegg.com the memory(its cheaper).

Yep! That's exactly what I'm gonna do. But right now, HP is offering a lot of free upgrades. Free upgrade to 1gb ram, free upgrade to media center OS, and a couple others that I don't really care about. I'm just stuck on which screen right now... Recently read this:

"Having a wsxga screen, you can choose the regular HP wxga (1440x900) display. If you choose ultrabright view, be ready to see an impact on battery life. Moreover it add extra tickness to the lid. When you use the laptop alone it take less computer resources to refresh the wxga display compare to the wsxga. Windows and multimedia applications are definitely more snappy. You get also the advantage to have two screen to display more informations."

I'm sorta convinced to choose wsxga display over the wxga Ultra. Anyone want to convince me more or talk me out of it?

I ordered the 1680 and glad of it. So far as refreshing the screen being slower one screen to another, with the 7600 it should have no problems there.(if there ever was) (1440x900) Ultra bright -Dual lamped, slightly less battery life, increased weight, increased thickness of the unit, and the lid, extra expense when lamp(s) need replacing. Pro's? It gives more even screen lighting. (and some have said in daylight it shows up better.) Now if they made the 1680 with that option I'd consider it. I like the 1680 because you can display two pages side by side and not have to scroll up and down as much.

Make sure to buy it directly thru HP, they have a 21 day return window...

I can't see why anyone would want to buy from Costco with their 180 day return window.

Just kidding guys....

PS guys, don't abuse Costco's return policy... Even if you hate Costco for some reason it's good to keep them in business with that 180 day policy .... otherwise we'd be looking at 21 day return windows across the board.
