No when I said first one i meant my first hdd, it was a seagate. what happened is the hdd died, showed symtoms of death, clicking, etc... and now the second one died it was a maxtor. I RMA'd the maxtor and its on its way

I got a PSU tester and the psu seems to be fine, it shows all voltages to be green. I'm using antec's tester.

How old was that Seagate?? If you've gone through two brand new HD's in a short amount of time then you have a pretty serious problem on your hands..
If the Seagate was a few years old though, then that's just how it is some times. $hit happens
I've gone through quite a few HD's and I hate hearing that noise...

it was a few years old 2 1/2 to be more specific. But if it helps, it seeemed to start messing up after i attempted to install mcaffe. anyway mcaffe messed up windows, i ended up reformatting and it ran slower and gave sign of dying, so i bought a new hdd. Never installed mcaffee again. and as soon as installed the new hdd the seagate just pooped out and completely died.

I can't imagince a software program toasting a hard drive.. I'm pretty sure the only things that can do that are heat, physical damage (like a drop) and old age.
and this 1705 came with McAfee Security Center and it runs fine. I'm not exactly a McAfee fan and I know there are better programs, but this was free (36 month subscription), so I'll keep it

Lol, just dont get any viruses and you have no need to run any virus programs I only use my grungy old laptop to search sites that i'm not familiar with. That way I dont get any nasty viruses on my gaming machine

So, Skiu, you got a new HDD yet, and it works?

Never know where you're gonna get a virus though (I'm including spyware in the same category). I've even found zip files containing viruses in the NG's and those are usually very safe.
So I'll stick to always running an anti-virus program

Hehe, I normally stick to the same sites and files. Games, and data really and nothing much more. Working for the internet content filtering industry i'm exposed to a lot of the threats before I have the chance to discover them However, it is the internet and you can't be tooo prepared :P

I've got all my really important files backed up elsewhere too

So, you replaced the HDD and its still doing it?

Remember how I fixed mine, Switched it from the standard HDD to a SATA connection and now it works fine. The old harddrive that it wouldn't boot from is now plugged in as a secondary and backup so...hdd wasn't bad....

Just did a second look at your mobo specs online (yay4google!) and its SATA supported. Try getting one to see if that solves the issue, if you're willing to try that.
