Dell Inspiron 6400

Thread Starter
I'm contemplating buying a Dell Inspiron 6400. Just wondering if anybody has any experience with K/Ubuntu Dapper on this machine. Does it work without too much hassle and configuration? Is the ATI Radeon card usable in K/Ubuntu. What about the sound?

Is the Dell XPS 1210 any better / worse?

Thanks in advance.

Well, the ati issue you can easily fix by installing the xorg-driver-fglrx and after that you generate an initial standard xorg.conf with aticonfig. .

As for the rest of the things, I think i read somewhere ubuntu only uses teh dual core after you recompile the kernel: oh sweet, here is the page on what works for the 6400 and how to ge things to work :ie. kernel recompile etc.

from what i just looked at in my synaptic there are SMP kernels available.

fglrx is really easy to get going on ubuntu, with the correct resolution

wireless shouldn't be that much of a challange.
