Taking a break...

Thread Starter
I've started getting way too involved in the boards lately and in trying to clear up all the misinformation a select few people seem to love spreading about Macs.

It's got me very frustrated and also very disgusted with this place. Normally just a couple people wouldn't bother me but when they insist on saying the same things relentlessly over and over again no matter what proof you show to the contrary it just gets annoying and trying to refute everything they say becomes an exercise in futility as they just continue on spouting their misinformation.

Whenever I come here now I'm more angry than anything else and I don't like it, especially as these feelings have been increasing in the past week or so.

Starting with the next time I visit the boards, which will probably be in a few hours, I am no longer going to respond to comments made by abf and usa<s>dipshit</s>patriot or any other persons like them who continue to spread misinformation. If people decide to believe what they say, oh well, let them, I honestly don't care anymore.

I will still be reading and responding to real and intelligent questions and giving advice, but I'm going to try and distance myself as much as possible for a while. And starting on either Friday or Saturday I'm not going to even come here at all for about a week as I'm going on holiday to Savannah. Hopefully it'll help my decompression and I'll be able to come back when it's over in a much better mood.

I came here originally because I was going to buy a laptop and wanted to get information. I found a great community here so I stayed. Now it's just been soured and this place is no longer fun for me so I'm taking a break. This isn't one of those "I hate you all so I'm gonna take my toys and leave!" posts—and god help me if I ever make one of them I hope someone shoots me—this is just something I need to get off my chest.

I will still be around—except for most of next week, as I said—and I'll still answer questions and give advice, but I am no longer going to bother with responding to those people who insist that Macs suck because of x, y, and z, with x, y, and z usually being stupid assumptions, stupid opinions, or just flat out wrong information.

Sorry to hear about everything getting to you Kakaze... I just wanted to say thanks for all the answers that you have given me in the last few weeks. I was hoping this post wasn't geared at me, lol.

Enjoy your break, and again, I appreciate all the information that you have given me.

BTW, regarding abf and patriot - good plan. They both remind me of my own boys when they were kids: obnoxious, know-it-alls. Actually, that pretty much sounds like me, too, when I was young and still had all the answers to everything!
a

i definently dont think they know it all~!!!!

im sure many of you will agree with me on that.

It's good to be able to step back sometimes if you're getting overinvolved. Enjoy your break and come back soon.

Kakaze...I understand your frustrations. I started out at NBF just in the Alienware section, and there are certainly parallels between how opinionated people are on Alienware and Apple computers (either positively or negatively).

I think it only takes a few "common sense" posters to negate the impacts of the perpetual flamers/naysayers. Most people know enough to ignore the "don't buy it cause it sucks" posters. But those of us who really like a specific product also have to be careful not to fall into the game of attacking those guys too much - because it quickly degenerates into a flame war. I go through phases, sometimes letting it ride and other times getting on my high horse. Like you said, ignoring them is the best action, especially if they make you angry.

Take care...and hope to see you around, as you give good advice and have lots of knowledge about Apple computers. This section has obviously been busier since the Intel Macs came out...that's a good thing, but it will also bring more contact with Apple-haters...just the nature of this forum being set up for a wide range of products.

Couldn’t agree more about some of the posts from some of the members here (although I am not saying that about anyone in particular and not about the people specifically mentioned in this thread, as far as I am concerned that is what PM’s are for). Sometimes those posts make me laugh but most of the time I just ignore them and move on, see if I can learn something from the forums or maybe pass on some of the info I have picked up over the years. Here’s looking forward to your refreshed and rejuvenated return.

Thanks everyone.

I just saw a post in another forum and, my god, it's just soooooooooooo hard to not reply. But I need to do this because the exchanges just piss me off in the end and that's not good for anyone.

:sigh:

What I wouldn't give for Maxwell's silver hammer.

Well, I'm going on holiday with my mother, my aunt, and my 13 year old cousin, so the amount of fun I'm going to have is debatable, but at least I'm leaving Orlando so that makes me happy.

I just wish I could leave permanently. Anyone wanna finance my moving to New York and subsequent establishing of myself there?

Kakaze...I'm smiling...just saw your post in the OT section. I don't know how old you are, but you are obviously quite mature. Hope you don't stay away too long...(I'd give anything for a few weeks in Florida, and you want to escape...I guess we always want what we don't have )

next time you see an uninformed troll post, just report it or pm a mod to get it taken care of. trolls shouldnt be allowed to ruin your forum experience.

Kakaze: I can relate because I found the same issues on the Acer board when I got my TM8200.

I could use any guidance that anyone here can provide regarding my switching to the MacPro notebook from my Acer not that the Intel chips and Boot Camp (beta).

I must use XP due to my business applications BUT I have always love the build quality of the Mac (thin, metal case and light).

I was disappointed to read on the Boot Camp link that it will not support: IR, Bluetooth, USB modem, sudden motion sensor, the ambient light sensor (yeah that too!) and the iSight camera. I gotta have my bluetooth mouse and sure like the cool ambient light option.

Any idea if the new Mac OS X Leopard will support these?

Also, with the exception of these have you heard of any issues with running XP applications or is it true that it is a seamless integration?

I do need to connect to my Windows 2000 Server at my office.

Help me to convince myself to get the Mac Pro and the timing of the purchase.

Thanks!

I'm 27 Shazza, which makes this break all the more necessary as I'm allowing a bloody 16 year old to piss me off so much.

Funny, though, as I'd give anything for a few weeks in Oz...none of that outback stuff though. I don't like the fact that pretty much everything out there can kill you, but I'll settle for a nice five star hotel overlooking Sydney harbour, and I'd definitely love to take a trip to Coober Pedy while I'm out there as well.

Yup, Rob, it was the Divine Miss M who sang that song. It's overly saccharine and sentimental, but it just seemed to fit

I'll have to think about your proposal...throw in enough money to hire a nanny and I think we might be close to a deal.

Gonna do the Disney thing, Chevy? It's hell during the summer! I don't envy you coming, heh.

Thanks, Chode. I don't particularly like reporting posts, however, as people are entitled to their opinions, and I really don't want to turn into the old man sitting on his porch waving his cane around and screaming at all the whipper snappers, heh.

Golf, BootCamp is "expected" to provide full hardware support in it's final incarnation. It's just right now that it doesn't support all the nonessential hardware like the iSight and the light sensor, etc. Bluetooth is supported, however, from what I've heard, but supposedly you get better transmission by installing a third party bluetooth driver. I'm pretty sure I saw someone post about it here so try searching and see if it pops up.

As far as I know all Windows programmes will run with the exception of some that require legacy hardware or dongles, apparently. 3D Studio Max 8 runs, from what I understand, but earlier versions won't for some reason. Other than that all "normal" software should run, ie, games and such.

You'll be able to connect to your W2K server through both OS X and Windows.

Kakaze...I don't like to report posts either, but find myself doing it more often, as the mods don't always have time to get to everything quickly.

You would have liked it where we lived in Sydney the first year...right in the midst of it. You can see a bit of the harbor and opera house in the pic I posted before of My Macs . We're in the suburbs now, but still have a nice water view.

Going to the Zoo today - and looking forward to it! All the deadly beasties will be behind a fence (well, except for the people).

We also own a home in South Florida...have lived there for 12 years. I am one of the few who thrives on the humidity.
