You need to try Dapper (Ubuntu 6.06 LTS desktop cd).
After install visit http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...allation_Guide
and use method 2 to install ATi proprietary drivers.
Then get easyubuntu http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/ and install all the
codecs etc. to play dvd movies etc.
From personal experience make sure a DVD region is set on your
DVD player or you wont be able to play comercial DVD movies even with the
right plugins. (from the factory no region is set, choose carefully you only have 5 changes available to you). This all should give you a very stable
Ubuntu to work with and grow on. Read the entire thread linked above
GMC (Gord) the original poster and jdong are very helpful and knowledgeable.
You can follow the journey they had from early adoption of 5672
to a stable Dapper Ubuntu install today without experiencing the pitfalls.
All-in-all dapper is an easy install on this machine. It has been invaluable to me.
I have a very stable dual boot of Ubuntu/XP Pro on my 5672.
If you want to dualboot look here

I have learned alot about Ubuntu on this setup and offer any help I can be.
I ain't an expert like Gord or jdong. You may PM me.

i got it all figured out, i think i had a currupt ubuntu disk, and it wasn't dapper it was breezy, i went ahead and got the new dapper version of kabuntu, it's lovely, instantly detected wifi and everything, only trouble was getting the x1600 ati drivers installed, i was expecting bash shell, like most linux distro's and not SuDo......but i'll get it all down. thanks for lookin out though.
