Dell Warrenty

I was looking to get a E1705, but don't want to pay the ridiculous surcharges that Dell has for RAM ($350 for 2 GB of 667 Mhz DDR2, while I can get the sticks for $150 from NewEgg.com)

If I get the RAM seperately and install it myself, do I void the warrenty from Dell?

You will not void the warranty if you install the RAM yourself

Just remember that if you have memory failures to contact the ram manufacturer.
