Sending back my 8600.....

Well, I have decided to send back my 8600, I really think its a great machine but the screen problems are really getting to me and im not about to pay the money I did for these problems. The Dell tech replaced the screen and I told him it was a little better, he left and as I looked at it more I can see an illumination at the top of the screen too, the bottom still has it like my old one but its maybe 30% better so to me its not even worth it. This is the 3rd screen thats been on my laptop, if Dell cant get it right in 3 times their out. So tonight or tommorow I am calling Dell to request an RMA.

That's a shame. What are you getting as an alternative if you don't mind me asking?

Not getting anything right now, probably going to wait a month or 2 and then see whats out there.

I am almost to that point. had two screens and now have a brand new machine with the exact same screen prob.

It's funny you guys mention this now as I have a local guy willing to sell me his M505X for a GREAT price. In essence, I'll save nearly 500 bucks and lose just 4 things...WSXG+ to a WXGA, DVD Burner to CDRW/DVD, and 128 mb video card to 64 mb video card and 1.5 to 1.4 Centrino. On the other hand the sound is better on the Gateway as is the build quality. I'm gonna make a return trip to Office Depot with some DVD's in hand. If I can take going down to a WXGA, I think I might go for it. For me, 500 bucks is a lot of money.

Seems like a mass defection may be underway. I can't say I blame anyone, though. If my 8600 continued to give me grief, I'd fire it back to Dell, too.

Lol, I love my 8600 don't get me wrong. It's just 500 bones is 500 bones.

I love my 8600 as well dont get me wrong either but I think I am going to wait and see if Dell fixes this problem in a month or 2 and buy another 8600 or somthing different. The service Dell has given me hasnt been too bad, I waited on the phone for about 15 minutes to request an RMA. I told the guy what the problem was and he offered to send me a brand new machine with the exact same specs in 3 days or somthing like that, I told him I am going to wait and see if Dell addresses the screen issue and if they do ill buy another 8600, he replied with, OK

Im kinda sad now

I am gona keep my 8600, don't find the light to much of a prob and the screen is the best yet. I don't have a choice really gona be TDY for about 6 months and need one by March.

I think Dell's Tech sprt has been great. Got a brand new laptop in 5 days and had a pre paid air bill to send it back, they even picked the old one up! Can ask for a new screen down the road when/if they solve the prob.

Well, for gods sake don't use the US postal service, use at least UPS.
Could someone post a screenshot or point me to a picture of what the screen looks like with the problem? I have been wondering what the screen looks like.
Don't even go there! That's how I got into this prob Really I don't think a pic would show the prob. Watch a movie and look at the bottom and top of the screen do ya see the screen any lighter???
What part of the world are you going TDY too? Don't be specific, don't want to give away to much
