5150 smokin in IRAQ!!!

hey everyone, I got my 5150, and this thing is awesome. I dont have a single complaint.
After having to sign for it at the military post office, I charged the battery for a few hours, and then started her up. After seeing the conglomerate of a million taskbar apps, a quick msconfig edit was put to the works. Now, I have an awesome machine that does not dissappoint. I have played my direct x 9 games and have seen that it does run them, and run them well. Tombo77 was correct about the 64mb fx 5200, and it runs all my games just as well as my desktop at home does. Thank goodness I saved alot of money!!!

I purchased 2 sticks of 512mb ddr 333 through a kingston supplier - samsung memory i think, and that should boost the speed up also, but I hardly need 512, so 1 gb should be my first laptop overkill!!! thanks for the support everyone, and i will frag some players online over here, as well as some bad iraqi insurgents. take it easy.

Glad you finally got it! I am glad you are happy with the 5200 because my 8600 will have one. I should have mine tommorrow or Thursday.

Stay Safe!

im glad you like your machine.

but i dont think killing REAL people should be taken as a game; even if they are "insurgents" or whatever. dont get me wrong, i know what you are doing is the right thing for you to do, but that just may be the case for these people [even if it isnt for us], is a whole other culture and believes. so please dont spare lives just because you can. can you give back what you have taken?? [meaning this people live.]
i dont want to start a flaming posting here. I do support what you guys are doing over there, even if im from Costa Rica and we dont have an army. i just want to make my point that PLEASE, dont kill anyone just because you can, in the other hand be safe, make sure they dont kill you.

yeah i looked at my post twice and i didnt realize what i said in the title... i meant that the video card and notebook itself is smokin as in fast performance.

As far as killing people goes, i have strict guidelines as to what pertains to a 'hostile' or 'nonhostile' target. We do not just KILL when we feel like it moron. Do you think I just ride around downtown mosul putting bullets in cars when the accidentally cut me off? No, sorry costa rica boy, go back to your green peace meetings, and when it comes to a notebook forum, dont subject us to your 12 year old common sense. If you were here, you would see things in a whole different way. take care!

Thanks for your vote of confidance......I must say since I don't have experience with the 5150 I was kinda hesitant to recommend the 5200 in your case. But Im glad you are happy and I hope others who don't want or need the bleeding edge machines realize you can game well on a lesser config'd lappy.

That was and is my reason for posting so vehemently here and taking and giving some flak. I did the research and almost spent too much and only wanted to share my actual experience. not benchmarks, or "assumed" thought based on no actual experience.
I hope Erik feels somewhat more comfortable as well.

I would have suggested an 8600 though as you can upgrade that card to a 5650 or maybe even a 5700. but your lappy will play fine for awhile and in a couple years for the same money you will have a much better machine that will play thoe games of that time well too.

Good Luck and thanks for being there...I spent 5 years on a nuk submarine..Pretty cush and safe compared to what you guys are dealing with!!!

Deathinacan - you are one rude prick. Did you actually read Shuzz's post, or did you just decide to call him a moron because he comes from Costa Rica? And as your for your nametag - it's nice to see members of our armed forces taking such a responsible attitude to their work. Moron.

Sounds like mammy is a spoiled pampered bleeding liberal enjoying freedom others died for who never spent a day serving his country.
SHOW SOME RESPECT BOY!!

All who are over there are not there by choice. Its easy for someone in another country to speak his mind and tell another who may be a casuality tomorrow not to hurt anyone.......It's a lot tougher to look in the eyes of some Iraqie and KNOW he or she is not going to pull a trigger.

Pay no mind to this jerk Deathinacan and do your job with your own safty in mind. No matter what it takes. And yes it IS nice to see members of the armed forces taking responsibility and the lattitude to do what many choose not to.

Heros Don't die for their country...heros make others die for theirs!!

even if got flamed, thanks for having those guidelines, i never intented to say that you just were driving around killing people, and yes im pretty sure if i was there i would see things diferrent.
So to stop to stop the flaming here, please forget anything i said that ofendes you, i was just making my point,my bad english may have turn this into another way i did not meant it to.

I'll give my respect to people who earn it, tombo. Invading someone's country because they have a nice supply of oil doesn't do it. Or are you one of those gimps who think Saddam was responsible for 9/11?

Anyway, about those laptops...

Everyone let's take a deep breath. This is a laptop forum and while I respect everyone's political opinions, this is probably the last place where it should be discussed. That said...I'm glad you like the 5150 deathinacan.

Tombo - You order that 5900 yet? I"m soo close to it but I have a pair of headphones I need to invest in as mine took a dump. Just an FYI but the rumours are circulating that the 5900's are going the way of the Dodo soon go get them while they're hot .

Everyone on this post... as mad as i am because a liberal decided to tell me that i am a prick, on with the post. I dont blame him, i have been called worse. I dont spare someones life because i can, i would rather give him life because of the freedoms my forefathers gave me. Trust me, this is not about oil. If it was, we would be raping the country and then leaving it, just like everyone wants us to do. I didnt choose to come here, but i did sign a contract that binds me to save even the most liberal of a person's arse - mammyrammer. take a deep breath. I havent killed anyone over here, and I am in combat arms. I dont take pride in killing either, rather i take pride in defending what i believe in. Besides, dont bark at me, tell the iraqis to stop killing each other so i dont have to defend their rights anymore. Did I invade this God forsaken country? NO! I didnt. someday, i will post some pictures of how poor this country is, and how badly they needed intervention. It is a sad sad world when a man can condemn someone for fighting for freedom, while he sits there and does nothing! Just support the troops and your way will get through anyways. besides, even if we are here for the oil, everyone likes cheaper gas dont we? but i would rather talk about other stuff

Like my brand spankin new 5150. man i am so stoked about this baby. I didnt think that it would run unreal II due to the poor reviews of the 64mb fx 5200, but hell yeah it runs it, and good too. I was giggling like a kid when it played so smooth. I wouldnt put it at max resolution or anything, but hey it runs at 1024x1280!! with all the optimized features on and all details on highest. unreal tourney 2003 runs smooth with 2x aa at high settings. The speakers kinda are dull, but still better than all the other laptops that guys have in my platoon!! I think they are jealous!! Besides, I use a nice set of sony dj headphones.. good enough to drown out the occasional incoming mortar or two.

Thanks tombo77! you helped me endure the time while i was without a laptop and in the midst of some severe v-card predjudice ... i bet it will run HL2 also, without breakin a sweat... but an upgrade may come by the time that game comes out.

Not meaning to drag this out. I kept my mouth shut because although I didn't fully agree with what deathinacan said on his first note and even thought the second not was a little rude, they've resolved their issues in an intelligent manor. I have the utmost respect for the purpose he serves. Things in his life right now are now peaches and cream, and based more on staying alive so a little leadway is deserved. My father was in the military for 26 years, and spent time in Korea shortly after the war and then in Vietnam. My Uncle was MIA in Vietnam. My brother was Airbourne Ranger and in the 10th Mountain Division (2nd group shipped out) and his service ended 2 months prior to the first Gulf War. Enough family history. I'm thankful that my family was not involved in the Gulf War and my prayers go out to those that were.

Since deathinacan and shuzz seem to have worked out their differences in an intelligent manor, I respect them both for that.

On the other hand, might I suggest you read your own e-mail. You severely contridict your own statement. "Invading someone's country because they have a nice supply of oil". Hmm. If you think back to the first Gulf war, what was Kuwaits interest, and why did Iraq enter their country? Not to mention, you appear to have a preconceived notion of him, simply because he is in the military.

Regardless of what you think of the military, take a step back a think about what you are about to say before you open your mouth and firmly implant your foot. Not everyone is going to agree with what our military does, but at least realize that we only have certain freedoms (like freedom of speech), because our military can provide the backbone to enforce those rights. The soldiers are not the ones making the decision to be there. That was as much your decision as his, assuming you practice the right to vote.

Might I suggest you spend your energy on this issue writing to your congressman if it is of real importance too you, instead of "attacking the messenger". As far as your "respect", although he deserves it because you are as much the reason for him being there as anyone (If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem), I sincerely doubt deathinacan wants it from you at this point. This will be the only thing I say on this issue in this thread.

My prayers go out all

deathinacan, enjoy the laptop, you deserve it. Give your friends our best regards from back home.

@deathinacan:

Be sure that i want this whole deal to end ASAP, may be not as bad as you since you are the one risking your skin there, so you and all the other people who are figthing there or some other places for their believes, you all deserve the best of the best, so my prayers go out you all.

Being retired military, I know what those guys are up agaisnt sometimes. Taking a job where you may have to put your life on the line is NOT an easy decision to make. I may not agree with everything the government does all the time, but I will always be there for my military brothers and sisters!

Our prayers and thoughts are always with you deathinacan!
