I'm going to school next year and I need a laptop. Right now, I want at least a 1.83 Core Duo, 1gig of ram, and dedicated graphics so I can play some games. I was seriously considering the Dell E1505 until I started talking to my dad about Lenovos. He is the IT Director for his company and has been ordering Lenovos in large volumes lately; therefore, he is getting a pretty good discount on them. My questions are:
1.) The Dell I priced out had an ATI X1400 labeled as 256mb, but reading the fine print informed me that it used 128mb of dedicated memory and shared up to 128mb of system memory. The X1400 that can be ordered with the T60 - it is labeled as 128mb, but does this mean 64 dedicated and 64 shared like the Dell, or does it mean 128mb of dedicated? If it does indicate 128mb dedicated, can system memory be shared additionally like the Dell?
I also priced out a T60p with the FireGL 5200. How does the 256mb of this card break down?
2.) In addition to pricing out the T60's, I also customized a 3000 N100. The only dedicated graphics option for this notebook is a "128mb GeForce Go 7300." My last question: Is this 128mb of dedicated memory or is it too split 50/50? In general, how is this graphics chip? I think I read somewhere that it is nothing too special and the X1400 performs much better. Is this true?
Thanks.
EDIT: I realize I am not going to get a gaming machine if I buy a Lenovo, so don't tell me to "go buy an XPS." That is not in my price range, hence why the only Dell I looked at was the E1505. I would like to play the Battlefields, and no they don't need to be at 10million resolution with super super high details and 6000 FPS. I can live with downgraded eye candy on a laptop. I understand it's a notebook and don't plan on pretending it's a desktop.
