Thanks for posting that the info was of help. Lots of good info I thought... Do have a small suggestion... quote the price for whatever system you're thinking about... Someone may know of a sale going on, or point you towards another model/brand that you can get more for the $$$$$. On the 7400, I've got a dv8000t w/Intel® Core™ Duo T2500 2.0 Ghz... that I've noticed has a problem (tearing, artifacting) while playing Doom3... If it was me I'd go with the 7600, and 7,200rpm hd's buying thru Costco. Above link is a CTO (Custom to Order) in which the order is transmitted directly to the HP factory in CHINA.... Time frame of Delievery? I placed my order on LATE PM the 2nd, unit shipped the 7th 3:54pm (after the Fed-EX cut-off)... and it was delievered to the east coast USA... the 10th, by 8:30am. Orginal "ship" date being the 12th, so it arrived 2 days before it was susposed to "ship". Why order CTO? Well you get what you WANT.... and unlike pre-build units that may be "sitting" around for a while you get the latest hardware /bios /software revisions.... Latest Bios and software revisions not being a big deal as those can be updated later, but the latest hardware revisions is always a GOOD thing...

tonyha, I'd go with something like this.. http://www.costco.com/CTO/HPConfigur...&model=EX177AV Costco Member Price $1,461.99 Shipping & Handling $0.00 Estimated Shipping Date : 7/9/2006 *Less coupon - -$50.00 This is taken off the above price at checkout automaticlly **Less rebate --$50.00 This is a mail in rebate thru HP, I got my unit in April - Just got the rebate about a week ago (Jun-21) Total price: Price $1,361.99 (tax on my unit was like $56) Note that I spec'd it with the BASE ram as you can buy third party ram CHEAPER thru newegg.com... plus KEEP those (2) 256mb 667 DDR-2 modules for later use (or you can sell them) * * * * * * Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2500 (2.0 GHz) 512MB DDR2 SDRAM (2x256MB) 100 GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive FREE Upgrade to LightScribe Super Multi w/DL!! 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600 Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050) Genuine Windows XP Home Edition HP Mobile Remote Control 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery Genuine Windows XP Home Edition Backup CD ($10) On the hd, when I order my next unit I'm going with the 7,200... single drive..... Unless you really "need" the hd space on the unit itself get the 100gig 7,200 and then get yourself an external hd as referenced in this thread. http://www.notebookforums.com/thread159990.html Right now you can pick up an Apricorn EZ-BUS-DT-KIT for only $24.99 (which is a VERY good price BTW) adding say a 250 gig desktop drive for about $50 (after rebate) and have a way to IMAGE the hd, backup data very easily. One last thing in case you missed it... Order the extra battery at time of order "if" you forsee a "need" for a 2nd battery as it's $83... and $169 later if ordered thru HP.
