1800-S203 proc upgrade

Thread Starter
I have a Satellite 1800-S203 with an 800 celeron processor. I have a C1000 from a dead Satellite 1805-S204 that I'd like to upgrade to. Considering the fact that I can't find anything in the bios about the CPU speed, will it auto-detect the new proc, or is there some utility that i need. I've heard that there's an "upgrade utility" out there, but I don't know what models it's necessary for or even why anyone would need it.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

It may or may not work. The general rule is that you can upgrade to the fastest processor supported by your BIOS. Your BIOS supports 800mHz celeron and PIII processors plus a 1000mHz PIII processor in the 1805-S273. I would guess that the 1000mHz celeron processor would work, but I think there is no way to tell without trying.

I dont think that the 200mhz increase in processor size will give you any noticeable difference, especially for the amount of work required. For increased performance, you may be better off just increasing your memory to its max and replacing your existing HDD which is probably a 4200rpm with a 5400 rpm or a 7200 if the cost is not prohibitive
