Thinkpad T60p Questions.

Thread Starter
1.) Will the Thinkpad T60p with the ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 play Counter Strike: Source, Half Life 2, and Battlefield 2 nice and smoothly?

2.) Would I be able to hook up the Thinkpad T60p to the Dell 20 inch Ultrasharp Widescreen Flat Panel Display? Will I have any issues because the Thinkpad T60p is not a widescreen and the Dell monitor is a widescreen?

3.) How much does the T60p with the 14 inch screen weigh? Is it worth getting the 14 inch over the 15 inch? I will be taking it to class occassionally and to the library and student center very frequently.

4.) How is Lenovo support?

5.) Does the Thinkpad T60p come with an XP CD?

Those are all the questions I have for now. I will make my purchase based on these answers. Thanks in advance.

Nice topic, I will join in:

1) Does the t60 use same screen as t42/t43? If it does not, is the screen a lot better? I'm talking about the 15" sxga+ flexview-screen.

some answers:
3. The 14" weighs about 4.5-5lbs, depending on the battery. I also use a plastic placeholder in place of the optical drive to save a bit of weight. The 15" is larger, thicker, and heavier. If you're going to carry it arounf frequently, definitely get the 14". I carry mine around a lot, and I think the 14" is the best size for it. The only reason one might consider the 15" is because of the flexview screen. But I say definitely 14".

4. Can't say too much because thankfully I haven't had to use it, but whenever I've called, they've been prompt and friendly and helpful.

5. No. There's a restore partition on the harddrive that you can burn a cd from. You can probably get a cd from lenovo.

1b. I think they use the same screen, but I don't know anything about the fleviews. I do know the t60 fleviews are great.

ThinkPads were the #1 rated laptop for service and support in the last PC Mag readers poll. IBM Global Services handles all their tech support.

I have a T60P with that video card. For what it's worth, I get about 3200 in 3DMark 2005. I haven't gamed much yet with my computer, but I have on my desktop with an NVidia 6800GT that gets 3500 in that same benchmark (and games play ok with my desktop). Note that I've experienced some choppiness with the T60p in Prey demo, but that's largely because I've insisted on playing at 1600x1200. You should be able to play shooters nicely if you keep the resolution at 1280x1024 or lower.

no

15 inch has flexview. I suggest getting the 15. I am unhappy with the 14". The screen is the worst part of the t60p

About the size, depends on a lot of things. The 14.1" models are really portable and easy to carry around. However, you might want a larger screen if you spend a lot of time in front of it.

Thus, if you have a desktop computer, pick the small model. Otherwise it's wiser to pick the 15".

Put it this way:

14.1" pros:

Longer battery life.
Light.
Small.

15" pros:

Larger screen.

15" BETTER SCREEN I believe its FLEXVIEW which has way better viewing angles.

The non flexview screens are horrible. That is why I'm returning my t60p

There is a vast difference between the flexview screen and the normal ibm screens. Used both and wouldnt even consider the non flexview screen. Just use both and you will see what i mean. Definitely return yours and buy the 15 inch flexview.
