- Text editor like Edit plus
- Photoshop is a must also if you do any sort of image editing.
- Divx codec pack if you have any divx movies and any other codecs related to that
- Openoffice.org a great MS Office alternative not as finely polished as Office but it gets the job done it also has support for MS Office documents.
- Usually have a good media player ( Windows Media Player 9 IMO is bloatware ). Sasami2k is my general favorite its got some neat gui features. There is also Media player classic which is a improved version of Windows Media Player 6.4 which IMO is the best version of Windows Media Player.
- A good web browser my choice is FireFox its very fast and has tabbed browsing.
- If your a game player then All Seeing Eye is a good TCP/IP server browser for games like Quake 3, UT2k3 etc.
- Also decompression programs like WinRAR and Winzip

For a text/hex editor, get UltraEdit.

I second that - UltraEdit is awesome!

I was curious about this topic too though... what are some good utilities for power management, benchmarking and any other essential utilities (not really Dell specific but for power notebook users in general)
