Widescreen makes me happy =)

Ahhh! I just ordered my Inspiron 8600 yesterday, and I am so happy I found this forum! Everything I've read about the 8600 has been good so far, except for the LCD problem, but I'm not too worried about that. This is my second notebook---the first was a Sony Vaio GRZ60, and there's not much to be said about it... It had that Sony overheating problem. Don't ever buy a Vaio!!

I was wondering what the difference was between the 90w and 65w power adaptors... Does it only affect how fast the battery charges?

And what is a <$50, good looking backpack for the 8600?

I can't wait to get my new notebook! I love Dell!

Another thing... Is it really worth it to get the CompleteCare warranty? I've had my Vaio for 8 months without dropping or spilling, but I don't know... My Vaio warranty ran out and now it's basically trash, so I'm a little paranoid.

Thanks!

Welcome you will love the screen I just got mine today did fresh install and installed newest BIOS and drivers The screen WUXGA (Sony) is great no dead pixels and no light at bottom of screen. Same settup as yours.

I have the 90 and it charges very fast, don't think it would make any other diff.

The warr and cc is a thing only you can address. I have the three year with on sight and I think its been great. Others will say its a waste of $$$.

I have a Soren case and also use a camel backpack for it. I had these already, If I was looking I would get somthing that straps the lapy down during its ride.

Good luck in your search, and congrats on the new 8600

Why do a fresh install?

Dell installs some junk you dont really need and it generally improves the preformance of the system.

Dell adds stuff that can slow down your laptop. I did a fresh install of Win XP and then installed the drivers that I wanted. Then updated XP via the web. The diff was night and day. I cant say why the Dell programs slow down the laptop, they just did for my 8600.

Good God Eric, when did you order your laptop??? Should have it soon I hope

Hi Meggoddess,

The Widescreen is just amazing. When you are a Gamer you will enjoy the Games. So far every game I ve played support the widescreen technology even in 1024*768. I dont understand how they make it, it is not just a stretching of the curent resolution otherwise the figuers have to look 'horizontally challenged'. But they don't

You should watch a DVD on this laptops. It's just amazing. Recently I have watched 'Finding Nemo'. The colors the widescreen...everything is just amazing on WUGXA.

The only bad thing about this laptop is its sound card. I am looking now for a USB Soundcard.

Have fun.

I love the Detour bag, but then I'm a girl and I need my colors.

And dang, I want my laptop to be as fast as possible, so now I want to do a fresh install, but I'm not sure how to find all the drivers and such. Anyone want to help?

Of course, I'm not sure when I'm going to get it yet. I just ordered yesterday, and since I'm so impatient, I looked on the order status and it said that they were already boxing it. I'm hoping to get it next week, but I don't know since they ship from Malaysia... Can't wait!!

Anyone want to buy a Vaio GRZ630 that overheats? Hey, it's a vain hope...

I believe dell has a list of drivers for your laptop on their support site.
The BIOS and Vidio Drivers were the only drivers I had to down load the drivers disc that came with mine had all the newest other than those.

You will look and look and look. If it is in the boxing then you should have it soon. I got my second 8600 in 5 days! Last time I got the laptop before the Dell sight even said it was shipped. This time they said it was in pre pro but had a tracking number for me. Got it the next day (Today).

It was shipped out from Austin on the 12th. Last I checked it was in Oregon (I am in Washington). It sat in Colorado the whole weekend... grrrr. It is supposed to be here tommorrow, but I would rather get it Thursday since I am off that day.

Dory: [dreaming] Uhhh... the sea monkeys have my money... yes, I'm a natural blue...

Hahaha... I love that movie!

Seeing my friend's 8600 and the amazing screen is what made me feel this overwhelming need to ditch my old laptop for a new one in the first place. Am I right or am I right? The 8600 is the best, most well-rounded laptop!

It just sucks that everyone is selling their customer support to India now. What language are they speaking??

And what are your guys' favorite games?

Anyone know how to get DVD+R's cheap?
I currently play EVE-Online its a MMO space game sorta like Elite if ya ever herd of that before. Apart from that I started playing UT2k4 which isnt a bad game although the physics arent my cup of tea. I also play Quake 3 Rocket Arena , and sometimes Warcraft 3. My Fav would have to be Quake 2 and War 3.

DVD+R usually you can get some from compusa for about a couple bucks a pop now. If ya check on Pricewatch they also have some good deals. This place http://www.cdrdvdrmedia.com/4xdvdplusr.html looks like it has some good deals looks like around .69 cents per disc, althought i dont know the quality of those discs they also look like they have brand name ones like verbatim and TDK for pretty cheep also

Meggoddess, I definitely think CompleteCare is worth it. I have been using laptops exclusively since 1999, and have dropped mine twice! This fractures the LCD, which must then be replaced. With CompleteCare, it's covered. I have also managed to spill Coke on my keyboard a couple times -- same story.
