macbook: single channel vs dual?

this really worth it?

MB came with 2x256 of 667 in DC
i installed a 1gb 533 stick, and a 256 400 stick (why i dont know)

would i notice a difference if i swapped out the 256 (400mhz) stick for one of the stock 256(667s)? i installed the 2x256 667 in my windows laptop just so theyd remain dual channel, but its not that big of a deal if its not

also, since i already have the 1gb 533, should i just buy another one? or should i go with 2x1gb 667mhz?

im guessing since i have the 256 (400) installed, that its clocking the 1gb 533 stick down to 400 also. so is 667 that much better than 400?

thanks everyone, sorry for all the posts, i probably soulda just made one big thread with mutliple questions!

should i get another 533 stick then? or just say screw it and get 170$ worth of 667?

maybe i should take out the 256x1 400 and put one of the 667 in or even just leave the 533 1gb in by itself?

im new to OSX so i dont know what "Flying" is, i only know what im experiencing now. it seems fairly fast, but maybe it could be better?

XBench and Cinebench.

I don't know if Cinebench is universal yet, however.

Don't waste your money getting 2x1gb ddr2 667. Current ddr2 667 sticks run with a higher cas latency than their 533mhz counterparts, once cas 4 ddr2 667 goes mainstream it will actually significantly outpace ddr2 533. For now the lower latency of ddr2 533 counteracts the higher latency and higher speed of the ddr2 667. Just get another 1gb stick of 533, 533 vs 667 is basically a wash. And I would guess that your macbook would probably run faster if you used just the 1x1gb ddr2 533 than the 1.25gb mixed ram @400mhz.

yeah i wouldn't waste for the 667, just get another 1gb 533, you'll notice a difference. im new to macs also but i fiddled around with the computer before i upgraded then rams, and then playe with it more and programs open faster and everything

also check in "about this mac" to see if there's any indication of the speed the RAM is running at. it's more likely that the memory is underclocked, but there could be a slight chance it's running at the higher spec. might be worth checking out.

Also, unless you overclock, your RAM will never run faster than the slowest stick in the machine, the bus will run at that speed thereby underclocking the other sticks by default.

There will be very little to gain going with the 667 RAM over the 533 in speed.

ive got 1.25 in there now. 1gb 533, and 256 667. so they are both running at 533.

is it worth 90$ to get 1gb more of 533 and run DC?

You can get 1gb of ddr2 533 ram for about $70. Whether or not it is worth it completely depends on your own needs. Obviously if you are doing massive media editing and like to run a million demanding things at once 2gb will be very nice, if you just use safari to hang out at nbf and aim to chat with your friends you probably won't notice much of a difference
