ok, for my internal cd/rw drive has performed just fine, as did my lite-on external usb dvd/rw burner. now, neither will burn cd's or dvd's (external)... the external won't even show that theres a blank cd or dvd in there!!! idk whats wrong, it just happened outta nowhere, don't remember what i did just before it happened, but neither work and it's seriously pissin me off. system restore didn't do anything, deleting drivers didn't do squat... i'm seriously gettin pissed and idk what to do. i wanna just wipe my windows cause i have too much crap built up on my comp, but i wanna back up movies and a few games (about 30-40 gb worth) onto dvd... but first i gotta fix this. any help would be appreciated... please

Assuming your burners are okay in the firmware/hardware dept and it's your windows & burning apps that are corrupt- used to be ASPI drivers could get corrupted. Alot of burning apps, and I think maybe XP now also install them by default- your problem is similar to what used to happen when those got corrupted.
Anyway, if that's not the issue, you could make another partition on your drive- assuming you've got a few gigs of free space, install XP fresh there as a dual-boot, install a fresh Nero, and commence your backup.
