Buying a new laptop

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me any help with buying a laptop. I'm looking for one that is under $2000 (Australian) and is both portable and contains a dedicated graphics card. A gb of ram, duo processor and decent memory is also what I am looking for if possible. The Dell 640m would be perfect except I don't think I'm able to get a graphics card for that. Can Dell add a graphics card for me? Or are the options that you see on their online store it? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks for your time

well for a 15 incher i would recommend an alienware m5550, becuase it has everytihng you want for around 2000, or the Asus W3j with a 14 inch screen, it is around(a bit less than 2000) it has everything you want, they both have dedicated graphics cards the Asus has an ATI mobility X1600 with 256mb and the Alienware m5550 has an Nividia Geforce Go 7600 with 256mb, you cannot get a different graphics card with the 640m, what you see is what you get with dell, they do not offer any upgrade graphics cards, and even if you bought an mxm card somewhere else, you wouldnt be able to install it without some serious hacking, case mods, and soldering, so if you want to game at all, do NOT get the Dell 640m

I'm looking at getting the Dell 6400 with duo core t2400 100gig of memory, 1gb ram, ATI mobility x1400. As I see it as the best value laptop for around $2000 Australian. What do people think of the portability issues? Is it an annoying laptop to have to drag around? Taking my laptop to uni is one of the main reasons why I think I should get a 14 inch screen instead but the model you suggested is 2500-2600 Australian way too much for me to spend. Are there any other 14 inch laptops you can recommend?

an ATI x1400 is not really a good card for most games, it is very protable but if oyur in australia you wont have too many options, and th Asus W3J is the only 14inch laptop with a good graphics card, because most companies classify 14inchers as thin and light, so 90% of them wont have good graphics cards, but i wouldnt get the dell 6400 , you should look at other 15 inch laptops, they are very portable if thats your concern

i dont know what the prices are in australia but a dell E1505 should be more than affordable with x1400. but the x1400 isnt really a gaming card. you can probably get an acer 8204 with 2000 dollars

Will the x1400 be able to play most games? I don't really care if there isn't awesome detail in the game, that doesn't really matter. Just wanting to know if it could play games like hitman 2 etc etc. What is your opinion on that card. I'm not a hardcore gamer or anything just want the ability to play the occasional game. Thanks for your help
