All of a sudden the order status is now to : "Shipped"
wtf is this? estimated delivery date is still to be advised.

i believe Dell doesn't provide special shipping details unless it's handed over to local 'ship-to-destination' courier, who actually hand over the notebook to the consignee.
It's been more than 30hrs since its stuck to 'Order Shipped' status. Once it lands in New Delhi, may be then i'd be provided with more details. Thanks people.

Well untrammeled anxiousness has taken its toll on me. I'm constanly searching around Notebook Forums and DCS for any related info. Just can't wait to see 'what happens next!'.
It's been two days since its stuck at the same position. Waiting for Dell guys to come back to work, if that's the case.

Anyways, does it really mean shipped when they say so? and since it's been to 'shipped' mode for more than couple of days, does it mean that it will have reached its destination (local one - New Delhi) by the time next updates take place and i get to know my order tracking number and Estimated delivery date? please clear this out.

I want to know another thing: how come this notebook cost me so much, $1480 to be precise here in India, and it's not that great a configuration, just a run of the mill notebook. I've seen you guys get much much better deals for ~$1500. Why is it that Dell created 20000 jobs just to cater a billion plus population here in India, and the notebooks still cost way above the average?

I ordered my D820 on Thursday June 15, at about 5pm. The Dell website said it would be shipped friday the 23rd and delivered around Friday the 30th.

By 5pm on the 16th, 24 hours after i had ordered it, it was all the way to the testing phase. By that same time Saturday, it was in boxing and was stuck there until late Sunday. (I read somewhere that "Boxing" doesn't only mean shipping prep and whatnot, but boxing is also shown while your system is being flown from where ever it was built (i think most laptops are built in Malaysia) to where its going to be picked up by your local carrier- in my case, the computer was in Nasville, TN late Sunday night (the 18th). UPS reported it to be delivered on Tuesday and sure enough, they came on Tuesday the 20th (but wouldnt you know i wasnt home when they came. I called UPS and the gal actually stopped back on her way back to the depot)

So thats my story. it seems dell gives themselves a lot of play when determining shipping and delivery dates. Mine was 5 days from order to delivery vs 15 reported online.

Whoa!! Five days flat, now you must be playing with your notebook!

I called up Dell Bangalore today, a girl in Delivery Status Deptt. told me that my notebook has been shipped and it's here in New Delhi waiting for the customs clearance. She added that it generally takes two to five days for the consignment to get cleared and then they send a 'invoice' (as if the purchase order, all cash order and other thousands of them coming in India at the same time wasnt enough) from Bangalore so that they can dispatch it to a local courier agency (dhl/ups) straight to my home.
The catch is that the invoice takes two to three days to reach New Delhi, so here's my (cynical) calculation:

0. - its been 3 days now since it was shipped.
July 3 - probably it arrived yesterday, i.e 2nd of July.
July 5 - it might, just might get cleared of coke and hash day after tomorrow (a monk notebook)
July 7 - sluggishly, invoice arrives on 5th
July 8 - paperwork completed
( ) July 9 - ready for the local couriers
July 10 - here i come baby

However, the lady gave me a lead time of July 21, and told me that she was being little bit conservative. But you've given me something to think about, btw, is that a record delivery time accomplished by Dell? anyone with ever faster delivery? (and special anecdotes, of course)

I have been stuck in "BOXING" phase since friday afternoon... and it's monday morning... WHY CAN'T IT JUST SHIP?!?!?! (I leave for two weeks on saturday, so I want hope!)

After waiting like this for 4 days now, (not for the notebooks, but for the freaking updated info on order check), i have to console with you guys.
the wait is THE real killer, doesn't matter how much the product suffices me now, i've waited like hell.
may be they build defective notebooks to keep on testing it endlessly so that they can delay the boxing stage and it finally affects the goddamn lead time.
or may be they just add an extra day for each and every process the product goes through, and that probably explains why some get it in half the time,
or may be both of the above apply, for those not faling in each of the above category.
and i wait.. i wait... i wait...i wa...

yeah- i've been playing for about 2 weeks now. i was astonished that it came so fast. i was hoping it would maybe come a few days faster than they were predicting but i was not expecting a week and a half. I dont know if i got my order in a good time or what. I also ordered over the phone, i dont know if that makes a difference. I actually talked to them at about 1 pm and the gal sent me a quote so it was in their system and then i actually ordered it at 5pm. I highly doubt that was it though. I just must have been lucky but im not going to complain. I've bought tons of stuff off the interent the past few years and waiting for it to come is by far the suckiest part.
