Hello all,
I received my Dell e1405 two days ago and love it. Trust me; I was expecting the worse even though many gave it upbeat reviews on it. However, I still have some questions on it and while I am at it give my brief review on the Dell e1405.
Start off let me introduce my laptop specs:
Intel® Core™ processor Duo T2300 (2MB Cache/1.66GHz/667MHz FSB)
14.1 inch WXGA (regular non-reflective)
1GB DDR2 SDRAM 533MHZ, 1 DIMM
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950
60GB Hard Drive
Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
Integrated Audio
Dell Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945 Mini Card (802.11 a/g, 54Mbps)
I chose this particular laptop purely for the fact it’s smaller and lighter than its competitors. This laptop was perfect for my e-mail, web surfing and minor multimedia needs. Its specs are pretty high even though you can get it at a bargain price.
Unfortunately, we know that at a good price something has to be left behind and that would be the graphics and sound department.
The display is surprisingly good even though this is the regular WXGA display, not the TRUELIFE screen. There is a little light leakage on the top left corner not in the least bothersome to my eyes. I was expecting a lot worse. I purchased the 2005fpw monitor last year so I am familiar in the way Dell makes their displays.
The light leaking stories which Dell is infamously known to have in many in their products was plaguing my mind while my laptop was being shipped. So why would I purchase it even though running the risk of having it fixed or sent right back? There wasn’t a company out there that offered a bang for your buck laptop as the Dell e1405.
Conclusion:
Let’s wrap it up here so I can get to my questions. The Dell e1405 laptop is perfect if you want something a tad smaller than your 15 inch screen notebook, but still want the estate space to comfortably enjoy your computing. Light enough to carry around for it not to be a pain. Last, but not least have the power to run many of today’s applications.
What suffers is the integrated graphics. This laptop was not design for gamers in mind so gamers don’t bother with this one. However I care about the graphics, but not because of the video game aspect, but because of my sore eyes!
QUESTIONS:
1.) The display is at a 60Hz refresh setting which really irritates my eyes! I tried to adjust it higher, but darn it can’t! Is there a fix for this?
2.) New graphic card fix the refresh setting or is it like this because of the display?
3.) This laptop capable of being upgraded to a new graphic/video card?
4.) If so, where can I get it upgraded? I know Dell has no upgrades for the graphic department.
My eyes are asking you laptop experts to come out and help. Also, my eyes thank you in advance.
THANKS!
