Dell e1705 or acer 5672wlmi

Ok, here's the deal. I can get both for about 1,100 each. The only actual difference is the graphics card. The dell would have a 7900gs while the acer would have a x1600. I know the 7900 is much better than the x1600 but i'm looking at support. I keep on hearing things about dell and i haven't heard much about acer. Help

e1705 is cheap this weekend lol. e1705 suppose to compare with the acer 8200series well performance wise atleast

Ok, thanks. Just curious how would the x1600 compared to the 7900gs perform in bf2? My main interest is in a laptop for bf 2142, which will run on the same engine as bf2.

for BF2 ram is more important than the GPU. Both cards will perform fine @bf2, but the 7900gs is a better card overall

ah. How hard is it to upgrade ram in a laptop by chance?
And also, does the Dell have an extra slot for memory because i might pay for the 512 at first and then just upgrade it for less to say 2 gigs later.

yes you can and should upgrade later.. its very easy to do it and you wont void the warranty

Raffi you have two slots for memory, get 512 in 1 DIMM then you can buy ram from Newegg and put it in. Start with 1 gig if that is not enough you can always get another stick from newegg and pull out the 512.

7900gs is much faster than a x1600. 7900gs is faster than 2 x1600 maybe even 3.

thx, I hope this lasts longer than my ipod mini. (died 2 weeks after the "extended" warranty ran out. They wanted me to pay a bunch to replace the entire thing when they didn't even sell it anymore.)

The 7900 will also give you worse battery life since it sucks power.

yah, i know, but i intend to keep it hooked up mostly. Replace my crud desktop which has a gf 3 ti 200 in it. That's after i upgraded it too! I hope the processor explodes or something.

Is it possible to switch over to integrated graphics on the motherboard (if it has any) when i want to conserve power? Just curious. It'd be good for college later on.

if you dont game much get acer but if you do you shouldnt really care about battery life

where are you people finding an e1705 for ~$1100 or w/e with the 7900gs? even w/ the $750 coupon the lowest i can get it is like $1600 because there is a default $450 or so coupon already implemented so in order to get it above the $2000 mark you end up having about a $1600 payment because the $750 doesnt stack with the already implemented $450 or so. When i select the e1705 i choose the second from the left of the ones they have to choose from if that matters, and you are using only the $750 coupon, right?? Also, if i have never owned a laptop before, how hard would it be to install 2gigs of ram from newegg into an e1705 if i just get the most basic from dell, and how mch would i be saving $$ wise by doing so instead of getting the 2gigs through dell. Thanks

I only set it for a 1 gig or 512 because i know i can update later. At that point the price is about 1,200. Then just use the 30% discount.
